Dear Supporters,
We are deeply grateful for your continued commitment to empowering girls through Joy for Children Uganda’s Menstrual Health Management (MHM) initiative. Your support is helping us unlock confidence, dignity, and opportunity for young girls across Uganda.
Menstrual health isn’t just a hygiene issue it’s a gateway to equity. For many girls, lack of access to menstrual products and education leads to missed school days, diminished self-esteem, and even long-term dropouts. Together, we’re changing that.
Through our MHM initiative, girls are now learning how to make their own reusable sanitary pads. This hands-on training equips them with not only practical skills but also a sense of pride and self-reliance. These sessions are accompanied by open conversations about puberty, hygiene, and self-confidence creating safe, supportive spaces where girls can grow and thrive.
Since the start of the program, over 1,000 girls have been trained in making their own sanitary pads. Attendance rates among these girls have improved, with 85% retaining consistent school attendance during menstruation. Our community workshops, held in schools and villages, have played a vital role in normalizing menstrual health discussions, fostering an environment of understanding and support.
A 14-year-old student from Kabarole shared her experience, saying, “Before the training, I used to stay home during my period because I didn’t have pads. Now, I make my own and come to school every day. I even taught my sister!” This is the power of your support restoring dignity, building confidence, and keeping girls present in the classroom and their communities.
Looking ahead, we aim to expand our reach to 10,000 more girls in the coming year with further training and the distribution of supplies. We are also working to strengthen school health clubs and train more female mentors in each region. With your continued partnership, we can make menstrual health a non-issue for every girl, everywhere.
Thank you for standing with us to #EmpowerHer.
