Dear Valued Supporters,
As children return to school from the holidays, many girls face a familiar challenge, navigating menstruation without the support, materials, or understanding they need. For too long, menstruation has been a barrier to education, confidence, and participation. This quarter, Joy for Children Uganda (JFCU) has continued to focus on Menstrual Health Management (MHM), ensuring that girls can start the new term with dignity, confidence, and the tools to stay in school.
Over the past months, we have reached schools in Bukoto and neighboring communities, providing both girls and boys with education about menstruation. Our sessions have taught girls how to manage their periods safely and hygienically while helping boys understand the importance of respect and empathy. By including boys, we are breaking down stigma and creating a culture of support in classrooms where girls no longer feel ashamed or isolated.
Returning to school after the holidays can be stressful for girls who lack sanitary products or face teasing from peers. Our teams visited homes and schools to distribute sanitary kits and reusable pads, ensuring that girls could attend classes without fear. We also created safe spaces where they can speak openly about challenges, ask questions, and receive guidance from trained teachers and mentors.
One of the most inspiring moments this term has been seeing girls walk into school with pride, prepared for their classes, and eager to participate. Mothers and guardians have shared their relief and gratitude, noting that their daughters are no longer missing school because of menstruation. Boys, too, are becoming allies encouraging their classmates, offering understanding, and helping to end the silence around periods.
Your support has made this transformation possible. From educational sessions and sanitary kit distribution to teacher training and community engagement, every contribution helps girls stay in school, gain confidence, and pursue their dreams.
Looking ahead, we aim to continue expanding MHM programs to more schools, strengthen teacher capacity, and ensure that every girl can attend school every day, without shame or interruption. Menstrual health is a right, and with your help, we are making it a reality for children across Uganda.
Thank you for standing with us. Your generosity ensures that girls can return to school with dignity, boys can learn empathy, and communities can embrace change that empowers every child.
