ACT has been working with Government Tamil Higher Primary School since 2013 as a part of the School Adoption Program. ACT primarily concentrates on improving school infrastructure and providing children with the right environment that is favourable for learning.
To ensure food security we distributed food provisions for the children and their families, at the Government Tamil Higher Primary School. Unfortunately, the majority of students at these institutions lack access to and cannot afford basic school supplies. Additionally, we distributed books and stationery supplies to all the children at the school. It was lovely to see how happy the kids were when they got their kits.
We have been conducting birthday celebrations on the last Saturday of every month. It is a joyous occasion to see the children celebrate their birthdays. They collectively cut a huge cake at the school and we also distributed delicious snacks to all the children. They are also provided with an individual cake to take home and celebrate with their family and friends.
Furthermore, ACT is teaching basic Math and English lessons at GTHPS for students in grades 1 through 7. The LSRW curriculum is being implemented. Children are being taught basic numeracy skills, alphabets, phonetics, spellings, and grammar. Our teachers are also taking assessments for children from grades 1 to 7 to understand their current literacy and numeracy skills, and cater to their learning needs accordingly. Additionally, our teachers also teach art class every Saturday, they engage the students in origami art and drawing. These art classes help foster creativity and skills like teamwork and concentration. A committed team of teachers and interns from ACT are collaborating closely with the children and teachers at the government school.
Feedback from one of our interns who taught English at the government school:
"ACT gave me an opportunity to see the ground reality and how the children in these schools were deprived of a lot of resources. ACT has been of real help to these schools, not only in helping the children learn but also providing them with the basic necessities such as food provisions and stationery supplies."
We want to express our gratitude to everyone who has contributed to ensure that our children have a good education for a brighter future.
