Ashwini Charitable Trust is most pleased to report that we have advanced in our endeavour to save the Government School that has been adopted by us. Namely, The Government Tamil Higher Primary School (GTHPS).
Not long ago, we were able to organise and carry out a thorough squaring away of the GTHPS grounds. The field and play area were in a state of disuse for nearly 20 months; the period in which school closures were in place due to the pandemic. The entire area had become out-of-bounds for children, owing to the dense undergrowth of weeds.
Shortly after the completion of this assignment, the new Hockey field at this school was inaugurated by members of 'Yes to Hockey'. A proud moment for ACT, indeed, as this is certainly a great opportunity for the children studying in the Government Schools to learn to play Hockey and be coached by some of India's best players. Watching the Hockey field take shape in a stage wise manner, right from clearing and levelling the area, all the way up to measuring and marking the pitch, made us brim with a sense of hope and enthusiasm.
The right kind of infrastructure is essential to establish a conducive environment that promotes learning. Creating a space that encourages children to explore and subsequently broaden their spectrum of interests will not only ensure a decline in the rate of school dropouts but will also go a long way in stimulating young minds to seek out opportunities for themselves.
Of the 305 children that we support, 93 of them belong to these Government Schools. The families of all these students have been a part of our covid relief effort, specifically our food security drive. They have received food provision and hygiene kits every month, since March 2020. Our beneficiaries belong to the economically weaker section of society, and are the worst hit by the pandemic. Hence, most of our initiatives in the last 22 months have been geared towards ensuring that no child of ACT goes hungry for even a single day.
Still and all, we eagerly await the reinstatement of our in-school program which will allow our volunteers to actively engage with the students of the Government Schools. This is a practice that was interrupted due to the pandemic.
We are certain that all the support we receive will assist us in implementing the many tried and tested practices that are indispensable to the well rounded growth and development of our children. Our gratitude for the same knows no bounds.
