Animal Welfare: Managing Stray Cats and Dogs

On behalf of our partners, volunteers, staff and the animals of Playa del Carmen we want to say a massive Thank You for your support in 2016! Local organisations are making a bigger impact on the ground because of you and your support. It may seem like a small contribution but when lots of us contribute for the same cause we manage to overcome many obstacles.

Here are a few words, images and facts about how we utilised your donations in 2016!

Coco’s Animal Welfare received this year an equivalent of £3 450. These donations supported their year round Spay and Neuter Campaign, supplied equipment and supplies for the recently inaugurated clinic and medications for the free/low cost surgeries provided to animals in Playa del Carmen. 

2017 is super close and we need to continue supporting our partners so they can achieve their goals, their goals are ours too. We allow our local NGO partners to drive the agenda for the projects that we support them on because they have a better understanding of local issues and cultural norms. They also have the support and trust of the locals, which is critically important to the long-term success of our projects.

Some of the on-going projects you can support in 2017 are the year-round spay and neuter campaign and the purchase of medicines, disposables and surgery tools. These ongoing projects are all vitally important to helping Coco’s make inroads to controlling the feral animal population in Playa del Carmen and educating the population on proper animal care.

Your donations are making an incredible impact here in Mexico!

Thanks to you, our supporters all around the world and the commitment of Coco’s Animal Welfare staff, our Vet Project is going very well. You better believe the next numbers reached in the second quarter of operations at the new clinic!

We are absolutely thrilled to let you know that within the last three months Coco’s Clinic helped 1,254 Animals in Playa del Carmen and a small community called El Cuyo!

During the months July, August and September we were able to achieve the following results

• 451 dogs and 445 cats have been spayed  or neutered
• 11 dogs and 24 cats have been rescued from the streets
• 8 dogs and 10 cats have found a new home through the adoption programs
• 65 rescued dogs and 256 rescued cats received consultation and medicines to improve their recovery after a rough life.

On top of this, Coco’s supported a campaign in a small community called El Cuyo where 80 dogs and 36 cats were spayed or neutered.

Coco's has also been able to start a new program where student vets come and help out. At the moment there are 2 vet students working here while completing their professional internship to become vets in their cities. This new program started with Mexican vet universities will help to spread the word and educate new professionals on Animal Welfare, Coco’s Style. This was made possible because of the new facilities and all of the equipment that we now have!
