Higher Number of Cataract Surgeries: The Navalbhai Hiraba Eye Hospital made further progress during this period. Th hospital performed 1568 cataract surgeries during the period, mostly free of cost or at affordable cost. It also performed 6 Glaucoma surgeries for the first time at the hospital. It also succeeded in performing 17 Chelezion interventions during the period.Encouraged from this performance, the hospital has set a target of 10,000 eye surgeries during the year 2011.
Breakthrough in Keratoplasty: The most striking achievement of this period was performing 11 Keratoplasty surgeries, all completely free of cost. Thanks to Dr. Ashish Nagpal of Retina Foundation and Asopalav Eye Hospital for conducting all these surgeries completely free of cost. Because of availability of high tech facilities at this hospital, we achieved 100 percent result in Keratoplasy. Due to such large number of successful Cornea Transplant, the waiting list of patients needing this surgical intervention is growing. Dr. Ashish Nagpal conducts a special OPD of patients requiting corneal transplant each last Thursday of the month at the hospital. There is always a long cue of people needing these services which are providing completely free of cost.
Posterior Capsular Opacity (PCO): The Hospital performed 246 PCO interventions during this period. Once again, this is the highest extent of intervention of its kind during this period. The OPD of patient requiring this intervention is increasing day by day.
Ptryrigium: The hospital succeeded in performing 207 ptryrigium surgeries during this period. Thus the hospital succeed in conducting 2055 eye surgeries during the period which is highest so far during a any quarter.
Eye Surgeries in Earthquake Affected Area: Another landmark achievement of the Hospital is conducting eye surgeries twice a month at Bhuj, the district town of Kutch, the earthquake affected area. The response in this area is very encouraging and every time about 60 surgeries are conducted completely free of cost. People come from interior areas of Kutch district for availing this services. Most people coming for these surgeries are salt-pan workers, very poor and mostly illiterate. Most of them consider these surgeries as "God's Blessings"
