One Earth, we all sustain it together!
Every year, we take a special moment to celebrate Earth Day on April 22. This year was no different with our friends of Rocinha Creative English! We have been hosting this cohort at the SINAL campus for over 4 years now, and it has been a joy watching them grow and learn about their environment.
This year, we celebrated earth painting pictures of what protecting the earth means to them, and even took singing lessons from our friend Maryta de Humahuaca, an indigenous singer and healer from Salta, Argentina, who taught them about the power of their voices and intention for healing themselves and the world.
Thanks to our donors, we can host transformative experience for the kids like this one. We are always searching to expand our cohorts, to do consider donating and sharing to likeminded friends! Stay tuned for more.

Summer workshops at CCJO

Teacher Eliana's Birthday!
This summer is over and kids are back to their regular programing. During those critical few months though, we funcioned as we usually do, receiving the community's kids for a recreational program with games, arts and crafts. We also held activities reinforcing the school curriculum in alfabetization and maths, and had two volunteers teaching English to our children.
We also held a special celebration to commemorate teacher Eliana's birthday - she was been a cornerstone of the Center thorugh and through, helping our community center stay afloat and as a shelter for our local families through hardships such as the pandemic. We'd like to take an opportunity with this report to honor her as well!
In March, classes kick off again and we reinforce our tutoring sessions, including IT classes as well. Stay tuned for more stories of the CCJO!

Summer is coming!

As summer approaches, the Julio Otoni Community Center is buzzing with excitement as we prepare to relaunch our much-loved summer program for the children of our community. This year, the program will once again feature engaging English classes, interactive games, and sports activities designed to inspire learning, creativity, and teamwork. Thanks to your support, we can provide a safe and stimulating environment where children can grow, explore, and enjoy their summer break in meaningful ways. These programs not only equip them with valuable skills but also offer opportunities for fun, friendship, and discovery right here in the heart of the Julio Otoni favela.
This month, we embraced the sunny weather and took the children on an adventure to Paquetá Island. Together, we explored the island’s picturesque landscapes, played games in its charming parks, and splashed in the warm waters at the beach. For many of the kids, it was a rare chance to escape their everyday routines and connect with nature, creating joyful memories that will stay with them for a lifetime. None of this would be possible without your generous contributions, and we are deeply grateful for your continued investment in the future of these children and the vibrant community we serve.
