Dear supporter,

As spring is around the corner we want to update you on the project Pasos Pequeñitos:

News from the daycare center

The daycare center is now in full swing. While Corona still fostered some uncertainties in January and had a peak in February, the situation is relaxing now and it is to be hoped that also the very young children can soon be vaccinated, as the general vaccination rates in Honduras are very high.

Thus, the daycare center is running in its new building to give children a safe and stimulating environment, while their single parents are finishing their education. Equally, the implementation of Montessori educational methods has thus far proven very successful. Speaking of which, all materials needed for a successful implementation of the Montesoori method could have finally been acquired!

The team’s main focus now is to identify more families that can benefit from this project, with the hope that we can fill the 20 spaces we have at the daycare.

Writing competition

This year we want to encourage children and young people once more to write down their thoughts and feelings. Therefore, we are hosting our writing competitionin collaboration with the Eckenroth Stiftung for already the third time. It will take place in all our project countries (Haiti, Honduras, Namibia, Germany and Italy). Children and young people from 10 to 14 years of age are called upon to send us their texts on the topic of sadness, anger, despair - happiness, courage, and gratitude.

A great start to the new year!

Hello!

A new year means new beginnings and we definitely have many of those at PEN PAPER PEACE. We hope you yourself could start well into the new year and are delighted to share some news with you from our partners at PasosPequeñitos daycare center:

After the Christmas vacation the daycare center is re-opening now. Corona still fosters a lot of uncertainty among parents, and some are hesitant to bring in their children to avoid infections in the family. Especially the very young children cannot be vaccinated yet, even though the vaccination rates in Honduras are very high. We hope that in the near future the daycare center will run at full capacity to give children a safe and stimulating environment, while their single parents are finishing their education.

We are more than thankful for your continuous support and hope that it will ensure the operation of PasosPequeñitos in 2022!

Project Contest

We at PEN PAPER PEACE ourselves are starting off the new year with a contest aimed at all young people who want to make a change in this world. We welcome any creative ideas on how to make the world a little bit better. The contest is organized by the FutureLab, a group of young volunteers within PEN PAPER PEACE. If you have an idea for a project or know someone that would be interested in participating, we would be delighted to receive an application until the end of February. We even have more great news to share: PEN PAPER PEACE officially welcomes a new Managing Director: We are beyond happy and excited to introduce to you Inka Lange who starts in February! Sadly, this also means that we will have to say goodbye to Jana Gottschalk, who deserves our utmost gratitude and respect for the fantastic job and unimaginable service she has rendered PPP in the past almost four years.

The daycare center is open!

Hello!

There is great news from the Pasos Pequeñitos project! On September 16, the newly remodeled daycare center was officially inaugurated. The daycare center is located in the center of Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras, in a residential neighborhood called "Altamira". The newly renovated building is equipped with everything necessary to provide excellent care for the children who will benefit from this project.

The project also has a new director. With her, the concept has also been revised, so that now the Montessori method is used, which is based on learning through experience. In the remaining three months of 2021, the care of nine children (four girls and five boys), is planned. All of these children are children of single mothers.

In addition, workshops for mothers on women's empowerment, confident communication in parenting, and health and personal hygiene will be held later this year. Thanks to your donations, the renovation could be realized and the operation could be maintained. In order to fill all 20 spaces in 2022, we need your continued support!

10 years PPP

There was also a good reason to celebrate this summer! Pen Paper Peace e.V. celebrated its 10th anniversary and we put on a great online festival. There were concerts, workshops and networking. Among other things, we gave a stage to the winners of the international writing competition that we launched together with the Eckenroth Foundation. The winners, aged 10 to 14, presented their texts on the topic of "borders" and "friendship" and moved us all deeply. The event was a great success and we were able to draw attention to our educational projects.
