Fund Spay & Neuter in Rural Romania

When we started our free spay and neuter program, we knew it would take years before we could see the real impact. Sterilization is not a solution that changes a community overnight, but it is the one that changes its future.

Since 2022, we have carefully recorded every animal that has been sterilized through our own free campaigns. As of today, 1,653 dogs and cats have been spayed or neutered with the support of our donors.

This number includes only the animals whose procedures were fully funded by Dumbrava lui Patrocle. It does not include animals whose sterilizations were paid by local authorities while we only provided transport and logistics, nor those whose owners paid part of the cost when our funds were insufficient. The real number of animals we have helped is therefore considerably higher.

Every week we continue to receive requests from families who cannot afford sterilization, villages asking for help, and people trying to care for abandoned animals in their communities. The demand has never truly disappeared.

At the same time, we are beginning to notice something encouraging. Compared to a few years ago, we receive slightly fewer requests to take in unwanted puppies and kittens and in the area here are visibly fewer dogs and cats wandering the streets. While animal abandonment has not disappeared, fewer litters mean fewer animals born into lives of hunger, disease, neglect, or abandonment.

Perhaps the greatest success of these campaigns is not the animals we rescue today, but the suffering that never has to happen.

Every female dog or cat sterilized prevents dozens, and sometimes hundreds, of animals from being born over her lifetime. Those are puppies and kittens that will never have to struggle to survive, never be abandoned in fields, never be hit by cars, never arrive at overcrowded shelters already sick and frightened.

Every donation to this project becomes a veterinary appointment, a safer future for an animal, and one more step toward communities where rescue organizations are no longer overwhelmed by preventable suffering.
