Educate an Orphan in Rural Western Kenya

Our graduation was successful

This year has been one of great change. The official starting of the new curriculum (Competency Based Curriculum) across the country, the official exams for the 3^rd grade pupils and the activities included in the exams were new to the pupils. We cleaned the markets with the children, visited farms, engaged in different types of sports and everything was new.

The change has come along with so many new things as academics is concerned and this has brought in the construction of new classrooms. We had no more space to build the classrooms and we decided to build a story building on the existing classes. We have tried our based and the construction is going on slowly and slowly as we receive the funds. There was need for the classes because our early childhood classes used by the children below 5 years are mud walled and in a bad condition. The other classrooms were good but they were not enough. The new curriculum has more activities which need more classes and it is in this regard that we needed additional classes.

We need your support to be able to complete the construction. We have tried our best and we have attached pictures for you to see where we are as you prepare to support. Consider constructing a classroom which will bear your name and or fundraise for us. These classrooms will give the children a good learning environment and be able to participate in all academic activities within the new curriculum. We would not wish our children to remain behind due to lack of classrooms.

This year we had 25 candidates in 8^th grade and they have already done their final primary national exams. We are looking forward to receiving results next month before Christmas. We believe in our children and we know they will all pass their exams. This will give them an opportunity to join high school in January next year.

Finally we are very much grateful for what you are doing not only in the lives of the orphans and the poor but in the entire community of rural western Kenya. You have brought Light in the darkest part of this region, the interior where people didn’t understand the difference between a TV and a computer monitor. You have opened their eyes and they know they have people who care for the needy. You have left a mark that will never be erased in any way, a mark that will always remain in their lives. Your names will always be mentioned in each and every speech of each individual child. This will go for years and years to come. We are proud of you and thank you so much for making a difference and giving hope to the hopeless.

Second semester activities

Second semester of this year was one of its own. Our primary school students enjoyed all the activities that took place. We had a teachers’ appreciation party and sports. We had several activities at the end of the semester and it was refreshing for the students. This gave them time to relax and prepare for the third semester and exams that are ahead.

The students prepared some poems to encourage their teachers and also had time to pray for them. The teachers received gifts from us and this was wonderful. We realized that teachers are part of the change that we are achieving and that there was a need for them to know they are appreciated not only by us but even the students. This was a good surprise to the teachers as we prepared everything without their involvement. They couldn’t believe when they received packages from us! We thank you for what you have done for us and the entire community. We have no words enough to thank you or even describe what you are doing in this community. The light is shining and it’s bright! We are seeing a changed community and it’s true YOU are making this to happen. The interior rural areas is changing for better!

We are opening school on the 2^nd of September and we have the national exams for both primary and high school students starting October. All the other students will close for the long holidays and the candidates will remain in school for their final national exams. We have 25 candidates in our primary school who are preparing for this exam and we have 27 who are preparing for high school exams.

Our government has changed the curricular and we are implementing the competency based curricular. The change is huge and we are trying our best to make sure that our children are not left behind. We have many things to put in place and one of them is building more classes to accommodate junior secondary school and office. Our Early Childhood development classes are in a pathetic state and there is an urgent need to build the same. This are projects that are at hand to better our children’s education. We know as we continue to share with our friends, families and on our social pages we will be able to reach more people who can stand with us.

We highly appreciate what you are doing, it is huge and the impact is unbelievable!

The impact you have made

John's first day at our transitional home

There is nothing encouraging and elevating than seeing the impact YOU have made in someone’s life! We believe as you give and support any cause you are always eager to hear or see what has happened and as it goes seeing believing!

We would like to feature John (not his real name), John came to us when he was about six months, we guessed as we had no information concerning him. He was malnourished and there was completely no hope for his survival. We were all worried and didn’t know what to do but took heart and gave him a temporal home for him to recover. John was in his own world and other children would look at him and pity him, we didn’t know if he was going to survive. Although we looked strong and optimistic but inside our hearts we were wondering if things would work out.

We managed to go to the hospital, he was admitted and after a week we came back home. He was on diet as he was anemic and malnourished. Changes were realized after six months and this is the time John could smile.

YOUR MONTHLY SUPPORT changed this boy’s life. We wouldn’t have managed without your support, we would have lost his life instead. You might not know how much you are doing in the lives of the needy, orphaned, abandoned and the entire community. John recovered completely and is now in a family that has loved him. He is in fourth grade, doing very well in his studies. It is not just feeding, providing education but it is saving lives and giving hope. Our community has changed, because the orphans are attending school. They go home in the evening smiling because of the good environment at school, a meal and love they have been shown. This wouldn’t be happening without you, this wouldn’t have materialized without your commitment, YOU have made it happen.

We have more than 130 children who need sponsors. They are already in school and there is no way they can be like John if we will not expand our support family. YOU are doing great things, YOU are changing lives but we know you have many people around you who have never felt happiness in supporting a child in need. We encourage you to share your good deeds with others around you to help in supporting these children who have no hope. Together we can
