Current status of Support 320 orphans with improved goats project
KADO is doing a commendable work of building the capacity of OVCs and their households in improved goat’s management through training, breading and dissemination of improved goats to some OVCs and provision of advisory services. However, many Orphans and vulnerable children have not received improved goats. The rate of bleeding is low because of limited breeder she-goats. This therefore, leaves many of them in poverty.
In the last quarter, the organization managed to implement the following;
Challenges
Due to limited financial resources, our challenges remain and these include;
Recommendation
The organization continues to request all donors to be part of us and have a helping hand to this project for the good of these vulnerable children who are the future leaders.
Testimony from one beneficiary
This is a testimony of is from Suleiman the son of late of Kapio Suleiman and Madina of Petete sub county in Pallisa district, Eastern Uganda. Suleiman is 10 year boy and had no support after the burial of her parents in 2004. Suleiman was being utilized by business men to sell their goods in petete trading centre and he would be paid 1,000/= Uganda shillings daily without food. KADO staff identified Suleiman selling goods in the trading centre, counseled him to go back to school such that he utilized the opportunity of the Uganda universal primary education but Suleiman raised an issue of lack of support. In a staff meeting the staff resolved to pick Suleiman, take him to school and provide support for his studies while at his aunts’ home. The project staff also had a meeting with the aunt of Suleiman to inform her how the organization would support Suleiman. The organization gave Suleiman the she goat and the aunt is looking after it while Suleiman is at school. Suleiman is currently happy and is a good learner in primary three.
This is true story and explains the work of KADO in relation to our project of support 320 OVCs with improved goats in Uganda. We are happy that OVC caretakers have come up to explain their challenges as regard OVCs
