Giving Tuesday was a great success! Thank you!

By Tai Kuncio | Project Leader

Hello everyone!

THANK YOU to everyone who donated on Giving Tuesday!  Thanks to your generosity, we were able to raise over $20,000 in just 24 hours and received $5,581 from GlobalGiving in bonus funds!

As mentioned before, we plan to use some of the money raised to purchase SmartTVs to allow our students to readily access the internet and connect with students from around the world through virtual classrooms but we also received a very generous amount from a single donor that will be used to purchase a much-needed van for the schools.  Transport has always been an issue for us and a van will help us to take children to medical appointments, boarding facilities we partner with, educational field trips and of course will help with logistical trips like monthly shopping and visiting families in need - particularly those with children with special needs.

We've also been working on some other initiatives lately:

Due to the challenges our children go through and the need for a professional counsellor, we were pleased to welcome a volunteer professional counsellor who provided regular support to the children.

A daily book hour has been introduced when all the students and staff, both teaching and non-teaching, read books and share the book experiences at the end of each week. This is to help develop and promote a reading culture at the high school, develop the students’ vocabulary, confidence and comprehension.

Acacia school students have been coming on campus weekly for student interaction and have been teaching UHfH’s students the basics of how to use a computer.

HATUA continues to provide fully funded scholarships for students that score top grades in their Primary level leaving
certificates. There are currently three students from Uganda Hands for Hope who go to two of the top schools in
Uganda!

We will certainly keep everyone posted as things develop in Uganda over the next couple months!

Thanks again, and Happy Holidays!
