Across Nigeria, thousands of women face severe challenges in accessing quality maternal healthcare and family planning services. Many pregnancies remain high-risk due to lack of skilled care, proper nutrition, or timely medical support. For countless women, childbirth can be a daily struggle against danger, poverty, and inadequate resources.

My 50th Birthday Mission: A Covenant of Compassion

As I celebrate my 50th birthday, I have set a personal goal:
To provide maternal health services, family planning education, and nutritional support to at least 1,000 women and their families, while establishing a support system through SAMONY Wellness Cafeteria.

This is my thanksgiving to God, my commitment to humanity, and my gift to mothers and children who need hope and care the most.
But we cannot do this alone.
We need partners, donors, and compassionate hearts like yours.

Our Reality: Financial Hardship & Minimal Donations

This season has been challenging. We have faced:
limited donations
rising costs of healthcare supplies and nutrition
increased demand from mothers and families

Yet, despite these trials, we remain committed to our mission.

Recently, we received $0.45 on GlobalGiving.
It may seem small, but it is a reminder that someone still believes in our mission.
Every seed matters.
Every drop counts.
From these small beginnings, great miracles are born.

What We Are Planning (December – January)

1. December Outreach — Maternal Health & Nutrition Program
We aim to provide medical checkups, prenatal supplements, and nutrient-rich meals to pregnant and nursing mothers.
2. Family Planning Education Sessions
Training women and communities on responsible family planning, reproductive health, and healthy living.
3. January Support Program
Distribution of nutrition packages, maternal care kits, and family planning resources to underserved families.
4. Continuous Follow-Up & Community Engagement
Home visits and counseling for mothers and families to ensure ongoing support and empowerment.

The reality of maternal health in Nigeria remains dire — yet financial constraints have significantly held us back this quarter. At SOHF, we’ve had to temporarily pause field activities under this project due to lack of funding. However, this pause hasn’t been idle. It’s been a season of regrouping, building new partnerships, and strategically planning for a stronger, more resilient return.

This Quarter: Minimal Field Activity Due to Financial Constraints

Unfortunately, we were unable to carry out many of our planned maternal outreach and education efforts in rural communities this quarter. Reasons include:

Insufficient funds for mobilization, transportation, and training

Inability to procure birth kits, nutrition packs, or printed educational materials

Volunteer activities suspended due to lack of stipends or logistical support

What We Focused On Instead: Strategy, Partnerships & Preparation

While physical activities slowed, we actively used this period to strengthen our foundation and deepen strategic collaborations.

Partnership with Isidore CompetitivAI Avatar

We officially launched our collaboration with Isidore CompetitivAI, an AI-powered simulation platform for training frontline health workers. This innovation, once fully deployed, will:

Reduce training costs

Improve CHW competency in safe motherhood, family planning, and newborn care

Allow learning in rural areas without internet through offline deployment

This partnership marks a turning point in how we scale impact with limited resources.

Internal Capacity Building

We used this window to:

Reassess our program delivery model

Strengthen grant applications and pitch decks

Explore co-funding partnerships and collaborations

Update our project monitoring tools in preparation for relaunch

Challenges Faced

Lack of Funds

This was the most critical obstacle. It affected:

Volunteer incentives

Community sensitization logistics

Printing of educational materials

Provision of safe birth kits and nutritional supplements

Emotional Toll on the Team

Pausing impact work — in communities where lives depend on timely intervention — is demoralizing. But the passion of our team remains unshaken.

Our Strategic Outlook: Prepared for Immediate Action

Our groundwork is laid. The need is urgent. Once funding becomes available, we are ready to immediately:

Resume community education on maternal health and family planning

Deploy trained volunteers for home visits and mobilization

Begin AI-based training for CHWs in collaboration with Isidore

Launch mobile clinics and distribute essential birth kits
