The transition into 2023 and the new rainy season has not come without new challenges. The founder and guiding spirit of the Jakon Rate Center has fallen ill and needs all of our support. Towards the end of 2022 she began to feel weakness in her legs that has spread to her arms and hands.
As of today, she feels that she has moved through the illness and is now on the path to recovery. Your support through prayers and any possible donations will help her so much as she works towards regaining the strength in her legs and hands. Currently we need help to cover expenses for quality vitamins that can support her recovery.
Meanwhile, the whole family is carrying on the mission of our founder to share ancestral Shipibo-Konibo knowledge with the following generations. The first cousin -and truly a sister- of our founder has taken over the teaching responsibilities in her absence and has risen to the occasion.
Now the Jakon Rate Center has all the basic infrastructure in place for its flagship educational program Samá. We can now receive up to 12 students to participate in this ancestral educational practice!
