Ichabires irake! / Many thanks!

In partnership with Shipibo Joi, Asociación Jakon Rate was able to raise $25,000 for the start of the year!

Shipibo Joi is a philanthropic project that collaborates with Shipibo-Konibo-Xetebo partners in the Peruvian Amazon to strengthen their own Indigenous sovereignty and wellbeing. Alianza Arkana has partnered with Shipibo Joi for nearly 10 years. Now with Asociación Jakon Rate and their Jakon Rate Center for Shipibo-Konibo Studies we have a strong alliance to meet our collective goals.

The rains and seasonal flood have brought an abundance of life to the center as our partnership with Alianza Arkana has begun to plant food, wood, and medicinal plants. So far they have planted 356 trees over an area of 1.5 hectares (3.7 acres) and they will begin work on a nursery to grow a variety of plants to create food forests and gardens throughout the Jakon Rate Center's 26.56 hectares (65.6 acres).

In January family members of the Association began living on the land and construction began on creating our first classroom and we hope to begin offering supplemental education activities for all the children now living on the land in April!

Until then we will be installing a deep water well and building a water tower with a 10,000 liter (2,641 gallons) to provide clean drinking water and an irrigation system that will also provide protection from seasonal fires in the dry months.

In March we are scheduled to launch the jakonrate.org website and welcome you all to visit it, maybe sign up for our Shipibo-Konibo language lessons, and maybe even come to Peru to visit, help out, and learn!

We appreciate all our your support in making this possible, especially our past and new recurring donors!

Jakon nete kanoya! / The life-giving good essence of creation is with you all!
