Finding Life
By John Sparks | President & CEO

Baskar was only twenty when he met with an accident two years ago. Unable to walk, he quickly withdrew inward and refused to speak with anyone. With the covid lockdown strictly enforced in Chennai he has rarely had contact with anyone since the accident.
India Partners staff met his mother at a community outreach, and she asked them if they would visit Baskar. They agreed, and when they arrived, Baskar sat quietly during the visit. When invited to visit the computer training center to meet other people with disabilities, he agreed to go. Upon arriving he received his first walker and was able to move around without assistance. And within a short period of time, he started talking and interacting with others. Now Baskar visits regularly and looks forward to enrolling in Microsoft Office training when lockdown ends, and the computer training facility reopen.
Covid has created a lot of pain and heartache but providing relief has connected us with many people like Baskar — future students we might never have met.
Thank you for your support during the pandemic.

Sakthivel is finally receiving support
By John Sparks | President, India Partners
Sakthivel is a special child, born with an intellectual disability. His father blamed his mother for giving birth to a disabled child and as he began to understand Sakthivel’s limitations, he left the family and went his separate way. This, sadly, is not very uncommon in Indian society. The mother was angry and did not want to do anything with the child. Sakthivel grandmother came to the rescue and took care of the boy. As he grew older it was becoming more and more difficult to care for him, especially when his behaviour became violent.
But then, Sakthivel and his grandmother began coming to the computer training center. Now, they get to be around families, students, and workers who see him for who he really is, not just his disability. Although he is not verbal, he loves to give a nice smile to those around him!
For the first time, Sakthivel has people in his life that understand his disability and treats him with love and understanding. Because of your gifts, student with disabilities like Sakthivel are finally receiving the support they need. Thank you for your generosity!

Pandi is receiving essential support!
By John Sparks | President, India Partners

Pandi is a new student at the computer system who comes from a remote village. She had completed her teacher training course, but since she did not get any job, she decided to study computers to better her chance of getting hired.
She is a person affected by polio and walks with a limp. The physiotherapist has advised that she should wear calipers. Because of your support, she will receive this life-changing tool!
She is quite timid and speaks softly. On a trip to the lake for boating, she started shivering as she had never seen so much of water in one place! She refused boating, but the staff slowly convinced her that with the life jacket and experienced boatmen, it is safe. She reluctantly agreed and came for boating with her eyes closed. But after that, when we went to the beach she started enjoying the water and the waves.
It is because of your generosity that students like Pandi gain the confidence, knowlege, and support to succeed! There are many more students with disabilites to support, and we're thankful you're joining us in the work left do be do.
