Project Report – Darfur Women Network

Dear Partners, donors, supporters,

We are incredibly grateful to GlobalGiving for consistently supporting small organizations like ours, enabling us to provide services that have a significant impact on our beneficiaries. GlobalGiving’s grant supports long-term recovery and education efforts led by local, vetted organizations in the most affected regions.

Community-Led Initiatives: Our approach fosters teamwork and mutual support, empowering residents to collaborate in addressing challenges and promoting well-being. Through participatory discussions, the community prioritized the need for water containers to improve their health, reflecting DWN’s deep roots in the community and positioning us to lead long-term COVID-19 recovery efforts.

The impact of COVID-19 shifted our focus towards long-term prevention and socioeconomic recovery for refugees in Chad. With GlobalGiving's grant, we expanded the Safe Stoves Program, scaled up production, and provide income opportunities, water containers, and open educational opportunity to raise awareness which is showing adaptability and resilience.

Addressing Critical Needs:

Water Security: We provided 4,000 durable water containers—two per family—to improve access to clean water, reducing waterborne diseases and improving daily living conditions. However, we are still in need of 2,000 more containers to reach our goal.

Hygiene & Sanitation: Supplying hygiene materials and durable containers has enhanced health and sanitation, lowering the incidence of water-related illnesses.

Despite the dire conditions faced by genocide survivors in Darfur, your support has enabled us to make a lasting impact. We invite you to be a part of this transformative change by helping us reach our goal of providing more water containers. We extend our heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support and generous donations. Your compassion and commitment to the Darfur refugees in the camps in Chad have made a significant impact.

Project Update: Water Containers Distribution

We are excited to share a recent achievement made possible through your contributions. We have successfully provided 230 refugee families in the camp with essential water containers, distributing two containers per family.

Importance of Water Containers

These water containers are vital for the daily survival and well-being of the refugee families. They serve several critical purposes:

Water Collection: The containers enable families to fetch water from the well, a necessary daily activity in the camp.
Water Storage: Having a reliable way to store water ensures that families have continuous access to clean water, reducing the risk of water-borne diseases.
Personal Hygiene and Food Preparation: Access to stored water facilitates better hygiene practices and food preparation, contributing to overall health and well-being.

Impact of Your Support

The distribution of these containers has significantly improved the quality of life for the refugees. Ensuring water availability is a life-saving measure that directly addresses some of the most pressing needs in the camp. Your support has made this possible, highlighting the importance of our collective efforts.

Dear Darfur Women Family,

On behalf of Darfur Women Network, I would like to wish you a happy Holidays!

Also, I would like to express my gratitude for your passionate support, your contribution has made a huge difference and positive impact on the survivors of genocide in Darfur, and refugees from Darfur, who are living in refugees’ camp in Chad.

I am writing to say thank you GlobalGiving for its amazing work and its compassionate sponsorship of the Life-Saving Assistance Pilot Project to benefit the devastated refugees from Darfur in Chad, who were displaced due to hunger and poverty.

I am writing to share with you the urgent situation in Sudan and ask for continuing your kind support for the devastated people of Sudan. Currently, over 97% of Darfur has fallen under Rapid Support Forces (RSF) control.

Since April 15th, 2023, Khartoum and most of Darfur have been completely out of control- fallen under the RSF occupation – except Elfasher the Capital of North Darfur State. As a result, an active genocide has been systematically carried out against indigenous, constituting war crimes, and crimes against humanity under international law, in Darfur. the international community must take action to end it and hold those responsible accountable.

mass killings have escalated in some states, villages, and cities in Darfur, however, the RSF has been encouraged by the silence of the international community.

The systemic attacks of RSF toward the African population, which resulted in the displacement the innocent civilians, deprivation of access to food, water, and medical assistance, as well as a blockade to the access of phone services, internet, electricity, and services.

The Life-saving Assistance Pilot Project (youtube.com)

Through Life-saving assistance services we have provided the following assistance:

260 families received waterproof sheets

540 families received four bars of soap

500 families received 30 pounds of ’ millet

One of the beneficiaries said that the package she received provided significant support for her family, which helped her to focus on her farm activities.
