Clean Water, Safe Lives: 2025 Water Containers Impact
Empowering Refugee Families in Chad
Darfur Women Network (DWN)
A Lifeline in Every Drop
Dear Kyra and the GlobalGiving Team and our Donors,
Access to clean water is a fundamental human right. Yet, for thousands of genocide survivors from Darfur living in refugee camps in Chad, it has long been a daily struggle. Families have had no choice but to use broken, melted, or makeshift plastic containers—putting their health, dignity, and survival at constant risk.
Thanks to the generous support of GlobalGiving, our passionate donors, social media advocates, and committed volunteers, the Darfur Women Network (DWN) has turned this crisis into hope—one family, and two containers, at a time.
Transforming Lives, Two Containers at a Time
Health & Hygiene:
Before this project, families used unsafe containers that often led to water contamination and illness. Our new containers protect against disease and ensure clean, safe water for drinking, cooking, and hygiene—reducing the risk of waterborne illnesses.
Dignity & Stability:
Access to clean water restores dignity and a sense of normalcy. Mothers can now cook and care for their children with confidence, and families can practice proper sanitation and handwashing—critical for disease prevention and daily well-being.
Latest Milestone: 630 Containers Distributed in September 2025
In September 2025, 630 new water containers were successfully distributed in the camp—two per household.
“Many had no income to buy any. Their old containers were patched with melted plastic. Now they can store clean water for drinking, hygiene, and cooking. It’s improved their lives overnight.”

These containers were sourced from the Sudan–Chad border, an area refugees cannot access due to conflict and lack of transportation. DWN managed the full logistics—procurement, shipment, and safe delivery to the camp.
Final Impact: 7,000 Refugee Families Reached
Through this initiative, 7,000 refugee families—over 35,000 individuals—each received two durable water containers.
Every family now has the ability to:
This project has restored hope and dignity to thousands of survivors of the second genocide unfolding in El Fasher, North Darfur, Sudan.
What’s Next: Continuing Relief for Survivors in Crisis
While we celebrate this achievement, the crisis continues to deepen. Families displaced by the current conflict urgently need disaster relief support—including access to clean water, food, hygiene kits, and communication tools.
We humbly ask our partners and donors to continue standing with us in this next phase of humanitarian response. Together, we can ensure that survivors of genocide are not forgotten.
