Greetings,

On behalf of Darfur Women Network, DWN, we wish you and your loved ones a healthy and happy new year. As this year and our fundraising campaign come to an end, we hope you have been able to take time to reflect on the previous year's challenges and the progress that we've made together.

Despite the unprecedented challenges faced this year, we are grateful that we have worked collectively, stayed strong, and remained hopeful. Thank you for your continued support and for being by our side all these years. Your commitment to our organization and its cause has showed the refugees people of Darfur that they are not alone.

As I look back on this year, I know we have much to celebrate. We celebrate our partnership with GlobalGiving and our connection with our wonderful supporters like you. Throughout this relationship, we have received your generous donations, which enabled us to accomplish our goals despite the instable security and political situations in Sudan.

Over the past year, we provided our team in refugee’s camp with food and safe tools to clean up the drinking water wells to secure water to refugees, we appreciated your strong support. We couldn’t have done any of this without your help.

Moreover, DWN has supported women and children whose lives have been negatively impacted by decades of conflict in Darfur by providing hygiene items, masks, and food to survive COVID 19.

We focus on adapting means of sustainable development, and empower women to improve their livelihood. Now, we are working with our team in the refugees’ camp to assess the urgent needs of the refugees with disability to work diligently to meet that needs.

The refugees always dream to have sustainable peace to return to their villages and to live with dignity.

We will share with you the result of the need assessment and our solution.

Update on Water Project

Dear supporter,

Thank you for your solidarity towards Darfur refugees, the survivors of genocide, who fled their country to live in Chad for over 17 years of which the majority are Women and children of the residents of the camps and are unable to meet their basic needs of living. Lack of social services, for drinking water, and sanitation expose these vulnerable communities to numerous challenges and life-threating situations, including malnutrition and diseases.

The Darfur refugees in Chad camps, depend on ponds for their drinking water during rainy season from July to October. During rainy season, the DWN works diligently to raise fund to provide our volunteers food and tools to clean the filled-up wells which then secures drinking water to refugees.

Now, the refugees are facing challenge of shortage of drinking water. New wells have been buried during rainy season. When rainy season is over, the Darfur refugees will clean up their wells to secure drinking water for the camp.

Since the camp is located in the desert with high temperatures, the water containers which are made from plastic are affected by the heat.

DWN is looking to help in following ways.

-We need to provide elderly, people with disability, and widows with water containers

- We support the refugee’s volunteers to clean up the wells to ensure the availability of drinking water to Darfur refugees in the camp in Chad.

DWN needs your generous support to be able to us to overcome the challenges. The refugees are in need of water for their personal hygiene. We are committed to provide water for consumption and hygiene. Your donation makes drinking water available to the refugees as well as hardworking volunteers. Your donations have helped us to provide safety tools to our volunteers’ team to clean up water drinking wells to ensure that clean water is available for drinking and for personal hygiene to prevent coronavirus.

Update on Water Project

Dear supporter,

Thank you for your solidarity towards Darfur refugees, the survivors of genocide, who fled their country to live in Chad for over 17 years of which the majority are Women and children who are unable to meet their basic needs of living. Lack of social services, for drinking water, and sanitation expose these vulnerable communities to numerous challenges and life-threating situations, including malnutrition and diseases.

The 2020 has been a quite challenging year, COVID-19 has presented the Darfur refugees in Touloum camp in Chad with unprecedented challenges in addition to lack of food, water, healthcare, education, and no jobs or any sources of income.

The Darfur Women Network have worked with the refugees to raise awareness by conducting sessions on awareness and prevention of COVID-19. Our staff taught them the importance of social distance, wearing masks, wash their hands for protection from COVID 19. We also distributed personal protective equipment like Masks, gloves, sanitizers, and soap to the 30000 refugees along with guidelines education.

Clean Water has been the critical needs for the refugees to survive COVID-19. The refugees are depended on rain for drinking water, and on water wells during summer. Currently due to rainy season the wells are covered up with water and this would be source of water for refugees till end of the season.

During rainy season, the DWN works diligently to raise fund to provide our volunteers food and tools to clean the filled-up wells which then secures drinking water to refugees.

DWN needs your generous support to be able to us to overcome the challenges to managing a COVID-19 outbreak. The refugees are in need to water for their personal hygiene. We are committed to provide water for consumption and hygiene. Your donation makes drinking water available to the refugees as well as hardworking volunteers. We want to ensure that refugees have access to water, soap, sanitizers, and mask, to survive COVID19. Your donations have helped us to provide safety tools to our volunteers’ team to clean up water drinking wells to ensure that clean water is available for drinking and for personal hygiene to prevent coronavirus.
