Empower a Girl: For Self-Reliance

Because of you (your donations); the life of Hagai, not his name, the older person pictured above in the middle; has been saved at Aboke Health Center IV, Kole District, Northern Uganda on the 13/08/2020 after being operated from EQUINO ANANIAS.

As Kole Intellectual Forum, with you support, continues to unlock the untold fear and suffering of the older persons in its area of operations at Kole District, Northern part of Uganda, during this difficult time of COVID-19; the organization has again identified one older person among others in a serious vulnerability and neglect that urgently needed medical services and humanitarian aid.

With support from GlobalGiving’s donations; the organization was able to negotiate with medical personnel and foot the medical bill of the said older person; and this has made it possible for that person to undergo equino ananias’operation; that was done successfull on the 13/08/2020 at Aboke Health Center IV, Kole District, Northern Uganda..

According to United Nations’ Policy Brief Report (May 2020), they noted that: COVID-19 pandemic is causing untold fear and suffering for older people across the world; due to the older persons vulnerability and neglect: to them (UN) in that finding, they further revealed that, some of the older people face additional vulnerabilities at this time; since, the spread of COVID-19 in care homes and institutions is taking a devastating toll on older people’s lives, with distressing reports indicating instances of neglect or mistreatment.

Whereby, older persons who are quarantined or locked down with family members or caregivers may also face higher risks of violence, abuse, and neglect. Older persons living in precarious conditions – such as refugee camps, informal settlements and prisons – are particularly at risk, due to overcrowded conditions, limited access to health services, water and sanitation facilities, as well as potential challenges accessing humanitarian support and assistance.

Furthermore, United Nations went on saying that, older persons are also often among the caregivers responding to the pandemic, increasing their risk of exposure to the virus. This is particularly true of older home-based carers, the vast majority of them women, who provide care for older persons, especially in contexts where health systems and long-term care provision are weak.

Following this reality of findings of United Nations in May 2020; Kole Intellectual Forum, a Community Based-Organization, in Northern Uganda, who is seeking information from far and near; by way of its usual facts findings; during the meeting of Girls’ project with the title “Empowering others to operate in Greatness” in the last paragraph;

With the help of those community in that meeting, the team of Kole Intellectual Forum identified the older persons within Angic parish, Bala Sub-County, Kole District that needed immediate Humanitarian aid during this difficult time of COVID-19 in Uganda.

With these findings in place, Kole Intellectual Forum, on the July 30th, 2020, responded to their needs by providing them with some maize flour and some beans as indicated in those photos in this report.
