More than half a million people in Afghanistan have been forced to flee their homes in this year alone. A total of 254,796 people have been displaced by deadly conflict, which shows no signs of abating. And more than 263,330 people are currently displaced due to a devastating drought across four provinces. With no rain for months, crops have failed, and families have been forced to leave their homes and set up makeshift camps. Water, food, and medicine are extremely limited, and families rely on the support of aid workers to survive.
With winter approaching, the outlook for displaced families is bleak. Afghanistan is known to have harsh winters, with heavy snowfall and sub-zero temperatures. Makeshift camps provide little defense against the cold and moisture. Winter clothing and waterproof footwear are scarce, so many children wear only sandals. Children and the elderly are particularly vulnerable, and have a high risk of infection.
Families are in desperate need for assistance, but unfortunately their needs may remain unmet. So far this year, we have raised $135 for our winterization project. If we manage to raise $1000-$2000 in the next few months, we will be able to run our project to help some of those families in desperate need. Last year, we provided a mobile health clinic for vulnerable families in a camp in Parwan. Over 120 people - of whom 50 were women, and 65 were children - received treatment for acute respiratory infection. If we raise $2000 this year, we can provide 20 families (of 8-9 people) with a full winterization kit (heater, warm clothes, blankets, cooking fuel).
We thank you for the support you have given, and continue to give, to this project. Every donation makes a difference to a life. Please share our project with your families, friends, and colleagues so we can reach our target. Their lives depend on us.
Warm wishes,
The team at AfD
