Success in 2020 - you were part of it!

By Carla Robinson | Administration & Development

You helped put this huge smile on Rosemary's face!
You helped put this huge smile on Rosemary's face!

In a year that was difficult in many ways, YOU made a difference in people’s lives.

We asked you to help us install a well in a village in the district of Thyolo, Malawi and you came through.

In the midst of the pandemic, we appreciate even more that you took the time to read our email to learn about these precious people in Africa who needed our help.

Because of you and others who joined in, our in-country team was able to install a water well in Juma village (we call it Juma 2a because it's the second well we installed in Juma, which is a large area).

People of Juma village told us that prior to meeting WWFA, they had a bad situation. They had to get their water from a hand-dug open well along the Nagahena River; open water is prone to contamination from animals. In the rainy season, the path was so slippery and steep that ladies would sometimes fall and break their buckets. Women and children were spending the majority of their day trekking to the water source. People were getting diarrhea and cholera, unable to perform household chores, tend to their gardens (their way to make a living), and children were late to school.

In December, our Malawi project manager went back to Juma to see how the water well was performing and how the people were doing. They enthusiastically reported they're very happy because they have clean and safe water to drink from nearby water source. Their children have been getting to school on time, women have more time at home, and at that point, there were no cases of diarrhea or cholera.

Pictured above is 19-year-old Rosemary. You can see by her smile, she's very happy with their new water well.

I'm sure if she could, Rosemary would thank you herself! We'll tell you for her: your kind heart and generosity truly made a difference. She can't even think about the way life used to be because everything about life in Juma has changed...for the better.

On behalf of Rosemary, the Juma people, and all of us at WWFA: thank you for helping provide clean, safe, and accessible water to many people. We hope you feel good about it and will join us again in another very happy village transformation project!
