African Impact Foundation has been working with Zambezi Sawmills Community School for over five years. When we first started working with the school, it was open grounds where people would drive their cars, motorbikes or bikes across the grounds, while also vandelizing during the night. It was not a safe space for any of the children nor teachers. Zambezi Sawmills had a mission to make this a safe, encouraging environment for their students by building a security wall. We partnered with the school and built them a large security wall where now the school is completely secured and is a safe environment for the students. Little did we know we could dream much bigger.
After working further with Zambezi Sawmills School, our future mission and goals grew together. Over the past five years we went beyond the security wall by building a vegetable garden as an income generating activity, installing a water tower and pump, as well as building additional classrooms. After incorproating all these new additions to the school, students' exam pass rates have increased by 12% in the last two years - an incredible accomplishment.
However, after meeting with the Head Teacher a year ago, we knew we had to take immediate action when hearing Ms. Zulu was still turning down an education to 8-10 families a day due to the lack of current space. There were so many children in the community who needed an education; however, due to lack of schools and space, so many children are actually not receiving an education at all. It was heartbreaking to the school that they had to turn down so many students an education on daily basis. The solution?
We knew we needed to build an additional classroom block which would educate 120 additional students a year - and thanks to incredible donors like yourself, we will do just that!!
The classroom block is now completely fundraised! We are so incredibly thankful for every single donor as you are providing an education to 120 deserving students, every single year.
We would also like to share a huge heartfelt thank you to Jess and Boris and their wedding guests, who have allowed us to reach our final goal and quite honestly make all of this happen! Jess and Boris will be in Livingstone end of December and we will all kick start the build of the classroom block!
Thank you again to every single donor. We are so excited to keep you all posted on the school build!
