Dear Ashoka Japan Youth Venture supporters,
Greetings from Tokyo! It's been hot these days in here, but we hope this finds you well (even under the challenging circumstances with the pandemic).
We have organized our 40th Youth Venture selection panel two weeks ago. It was the first time to hold this event online, but it went as well and smooth as the ones we had in the past. Among three presenters, two teams have been selected as new Youth Venturers!!
1. Yukino
Yukino is working on improving the social care system for children (including but not limited to orphanage, foster parent, group home). In Japan, social care will basically stop at the age of 18, and those young adults have to start living independently with very little support. Yukino tries 1) to provide information about scholarship that are targeting specifically those with social care; 2) to help them have hope, goals, and dreams in their life by showcasing diverse range of adults in society; and 3) to create a community where they can belong to even after becoming 18.
2. Maria and Yuria
Maria and Yuria are sisters who are creating hair donation system by themselves. Once when the sisters donated their hair to a nonprofit to create a wig for patients of childhood cancer. But when they asked the organization, they refused to answer and stopped picking up the phone. The sisters later learned that those hair are often sold for money and actually not used for making a wig. They then decided to create a transparent system for hair donation where many middle and high schoolers can join in easily. They have been collecting hair from more than 3,000 people and, with the generous help of a wig company, they have donated 10 wigs to cancer patients.
We are very excited to have them welcomed in our community, and we will keep moving forward faster and stronger! Your donation really matters to us. Thank you very much!
Warm regards,
Yoi Ashida on behalf of Ashoka Japan Team
