Dear our supporters,
Hello. This is Yoi from Ashoka Japan.
Even in this uncetain time, I hope you and your beloved ones are staying safe and healthy.
We would like to share out happy news! Last Saturday, we have selected two young changemakers as new Youth Venturers!
Rinyu is trying to promote the joy of reading books. Nowadays, many children are hooked to the screen and don't read books and newspaper compared to previous generations. Many initiatives tried to force children to read books, but it does not form a habit of reading books. Rinyu is creating and disseminating the brochure to introduce many quality books for children based on his experiences to read 4,000+ books. It is for free, and he publishes 1200 copies in 50 places such as library or bookstores all over Japan. It started small, but the words of mouth spread really fast, and many contacted Rinyu for the brochure. As he hopes to continue this information brochure, he does not shyaway from activities online, such as a zoom session for parents on what books to recommend to children and also another one on the unstable working environment of librarians.
Reina is a junior college student on a track to be a elementary school teacher. When she visited the Denmark's "Efterskole," Reina realized the importance for students to think about who they are and what they want to do in the future, which Japanese students often don't have time to when they are rushed into studying for the exams. Knowing how influentials parents and teachers can be for the students, she is now holding sessions for "The class to learn about yourself" for students on a teacher track as Reina. During the three-hour sessions, those teacher-to-be will understand how important it is for one to explore oneself. Later, those participants will come back as a facilitators of these session to learn and improve "facilitator/coaching skills" which will be very helpful when they interact with students in the future. In the past year, she held 17 sessions and trained 120 people.
Rinyu and Reina are both passionate and committed changemakers. We are very excited to welcome them as a part of our community, and we are looking forward to witnessing their journey as changemakers!!
Your support will be used to help young and talented changemakers like RInyu or Reina and to identify more of those hidden in Japan. Thank you so much for your generous contribution!
Kind regards,
Yoi on behalf of the Ashoka Japan team
