Gordinho makes a full recovery!
By Johanna Barba | Sinal do Vale Team

This week, one of our beloved cats, Gordinho gave us a scare when we found him curled up under the rain complaining without moving. We took him to the vet, who told us he had a urinary infection and was dehydrated... we got him his antibiotics and have been giving him serum every few hours for the past week, and we are happy to report he is back to his normal self! We will keep him under observation but are quite confident he has made a full recovery.
Gordinho loves to be around people so he is very easy to treat. He didn't like the serum as much, but he cooperated quite amazingly! we think he knows we were helping him feel better.
A big thank you to all our donors who enable us to respond quickly to emergencies, and keep our feline community healthy and happy!
Here is a photo of Gordinho taken today - note the shaved front legs, where the I.V. was. It's only a matter of time before the hair grows back :)

Meet: Macaquinha

Thanks to all our donors, we have been having a very calm past weeks! This is why we wanted to use this report to feature one of the members of our feline community: Macaquinha!
Macaquinha stands for "little monkey" in Portuguese (yes, we have a cat named monkey...) she was named that way because despite never being late for a meal, she remains slim and loves to hang out up in the trees. She was born here at our shelter and like most of her siblings, she likes to keep to herself. What makes her particularly special is that she likes to walk around in the forest - she has been known to accompany staff and guests on trails up the mountain!
Macaquinha is a free spirit and a nature lover, unlike most of our other cats who like to lie around in the sun rather close to the human settlers of the shelter, but despite that, she is very sweet and loving, when she feels like having some company!
A big thank you again from Macaquinha and everyone here at SINAL. Look out for more featured felines!
With gratitude,
Johanna Barba

Updates from our feline community!

![Yoda]()
Yoda
It has been a rainy winter, but thankfully, only one cat caught a cold (Guacamole, named of course by a Mexican volunteer) and we were able to treat fast enough to avoid it spreading! Good thing springtime is just around the corner, which means the cats have taken to chasing butterflies and the especially deceptive lightbugs at night.
We just finished building a new sandbox for the cats, in the hopes that they will find it more attractive than the garden. So far so good! We will keep posting updates and stories, for now meet our cat of the month:
Yoda arrived at Sinal about three years ago with two siblings. This is why the staff has a particular soft spot for Yoda: he's in love with Panda. He follows her around everywhere and tries to cuddle, but unfortunately Panda could not care less and is more busy with other concerns.
This report is a special shoutout to Yoda and his unconditional love!
