Coastal women extracting mustard oil
Coastal women extracting mustard oil

Sundarbans costal region is a World heritage site. People are mesmerized by the beauty and biodiversity of the forest. But the people adjacent to Sundarbans live a miserable life. Their life is full of disaster and poverty. The area is saline prone and floods and cyclones are regular phenomenon of this area. The people of Sundarbans coastal region live below the poverty line and depend on the forest resources for their livelihood. The life of the coastal women is highly struggling and they use to go to the forest risking their life to collect the resources. The women of this region suffer from several diseases and always struggle to earn meal for one time.

BEDS has been working for the betterment of coastal women and provided different training on agriculture, handicraft, livestock farming and tailoring. BEDS has established a BANOJIIBI Agro Farm. In the farms, local women are producing mustard oil by using traditional oil extraction machine (ghani), packaging the oil and selling them in the market through BANOJIBI brand.

BEDS has only supported 10 women for the seed bank. More vulnerable women are ready to conduct this type of small-scale business of nature-based solution. So, BEDS has taken an initiative to support women of Sundarbans coastal women to become empowered using nature-based solution through raising fund from GlobalGiving platform.

So, it’s a heartiest appeal to all the donors for being kind to help those vulnerable women to give them a chance to come out from the cycle of poverty and lead a respectful life.

We are requesting all our donors to start monthly recurring donation. Please click the following link; https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/changing-life-by-empowering-women/?show=recurring
