The coastal people suffer a lot due to their poverty. For their livelihood they depend on nature. Most of them depend on Sundarbans and this dependency on the Sundarbans causes to destroy the natural ecosystem, biodiversity and environment. Behind this natural disaster like cyclone hit every year and destroy the farm land, fish pond, livestock and also their dream.
To improve the livelihood or the lifestyle of the coastal people Bangladesh Environment and Development Society (BEDS) takes different type of activity and training on mangrove-based products to the coastal woman is one of them.
Mangrove thatch mat can improve the livelihood of the coastal woman. Coastal woman waves their dreams in the mat and after that, the local artist and the school going students draw the Sundarbans related paints or the others theme which represents the nature, local culture, their habitat, local activity etc. which adds a new value on this mat. This mat sells to the Sundarbans visitors as a souvenir product and it creates a new livelihood opportunity to the coastal woman. Now the coastal women earn and contribute to their family.
