In the remote villages of Indonesia, a child’s dream is often limited by the language they speak. Today, we are reaching out with an urgent call to action for one of our top education priorities in 2026: Provide English Course for Kids 2026.

This program has been identified as a key learning target for 2026, as we prepare rural children to face a more connected, digital, and competitive world.

Why English? Why Now?

English is more than just a school subject—it is a global key. For children in rural areas, mastering English creates a bridge between local potential and global opportunity. Immediate support is critical for three reasons:

1. Breaking the Cycle of Inequality
Most children in our village come from families where parents have limited educational backgrounds. Without additional learning support, these children risk falling behind their urban peers. English education gives them a competitive foundation for higher education and future careers.

2. Navigating the Digital World
As we integrate digital literacy into our learning programs, English becomes essential. The majority of high-quality educational resources, coding platforms, and global learning materials are available in English. To become digitally capable, children must first be English-ready.

3. Building Confidence and Soft Skills
Our English classes go beyond grammar and vocabulary. We focus on communication-based learning, helping children develop confidence, critical thinking, and self-expression. Learning a new language empowers children to find their voice and believe that their ideas matter.

Our Current Foundation

We currently use our Dedicated Classroom (10 × 6 meters) to conduct English learning sessions. For many children, this classroom has become a sanctuary—where “screen time” is transformed into “study time.”

However, to keep this program free, inclusive, and accessible for the most marginalized children throughout 2026, we urgently need sustained funding support.

Our Vision: A Language Hub in the Forest

The English program is a strategic stepping stone toward our long-term vision. As we work toward building a library and student dormitories, we envision Punthuk Sewu Learning Center becoming a language and learning hub—a place where children from even more remote areas can live, learn, and grow in a bilingual, sustainable, and tech-forward environment.

In the heart of rural Indonesia, the future of food security lies in the hands of young people. Yet today’s climate crisis and economic pressures mean that conventional farming methods are no longer enough. This month, we are proud to share our latest initiative: Regenerating Young Farmers through Sustainable Agriculture.

At Punthuk Sewu Learning Center, we believe that empowering youth with sustainable agricultural skills is key to building resilient rural livelihoods and protecting the environment.

Why Farmer Regeneration Matters

Many rural youth are leaving agriculture because it is often perceived as unprofitable, physically demanding, and environmentally harmful. Our program aims to change this perception by equipping young people with modern, sustainable, and economically viable farming skills through three core pillars:

1. Organic Farming and Permaculture Training

We train young farmers in organic agriculture and permaculture, teaching methods that work in harmony with nature rather than against it. Participants learn how to restore soil health without relying on chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Through permaculture principles, young farmers are guided to design self-sustaining, climate-resilient farming systems that remain productive throughout the year.

2. Circular Economy in Integrated Farming and Livestock

A key focus of our program is the application of the circular economy to ensure strong ecological and economic linkages between agriculture and livestock. In this integrated model:

• Agricultural by-products are reused as high-quality animal feed.

• Livestock waste is processed into nutrient-rich organic fertilizer for crops.

This closed-loop system reduces production costs, minimizes waste, and maintains ecological balance—demonstrating that sustainable farming can also be economically efficient.

3. Market Analysis and Agripreneurship

Growing crops is only half the journey. We equip young farmers with market analysis and agripreneurship skills so they can turn farming into a viable business. Participants learn to identify market demand, set fair prices, and understand agricultural value chains. By fostering an entrepreneurial mindset, we encourage young farmers to become business owners, not just laborers.

Our Facilities as an Incubation Hub

Our current facilities serve as a learning and incubation center for this transformation:

• The Open Hall functions as a classroom for permaculture theory, group discussions, and market strategy sessions.

• The Enclosed Classroom is used for more intensive technical training, including farm business analysis and data-based decision-making.

Looking Ahead: A Living Field Laboratory and Dormitories

Our plans to build a library and student dormitories (asrama) are essential to expanding this program. These facilities will allow youth from remote areas to live and learn on-site, creating a living field laboratory where sustainable agriculture can be practiced intensively. Our vision is to develop a center of excellence that can reach and inspire many more young farmers.
