A picture is Worth a Thousand Words

By Amy Baty-Herbert | Project Leader

Photography and video editing was the topic at a recent mentoring session that was attended by 16 students.  Thanks to the ongoing support from donors like you, each of the attendees received transportation to the mentoring session and lunch.

Introduction Photography is an incredibly rewarding and useful medium through which to explore self-expression with young people. By exploring photography and creating their own images, young people contribute to the development of social and political sensibilities within the community in which the images are made. The high visual literacy that many young people already possess can be easily transferred to examining and/or creating photographs around a particular interest, theme, or social issue.

Our speaker, Mr. Joseph K.,  started by outlining basic tips and features of photography and different kinds of angles when shooting videos and photos. The session was very interactive as mentees were given the opportunity to participate in doing some photo shoots and video editing.

Key points discussed:
• Definition of photography and video editing.
• What is photography used for?
• How does photography work?
• Camera features for beginners.
• Photography equipment.
• Basic photography tips.
• Examples of portrait photos.
• Examples of landscape photos.
• Video editing functions.
• Examples of video editing software.

Photography has become an increasingly important part of our lives over the last decade. With the rise of digital cameras and smartphones, it’s easier than ever to capture moments and memories.  Equipping future leaders with photography skills will aid them in their future careers.

We deeply appreciate your ongoing support, as it enables us to conduct more mentoring sessions and provide educational resources to the future leaders of Sierra Leone. If you haven't already, we warmly welcome your continued support through a recurring donation. We also encourage you to share this project with your contacts and invite them to consider supporting this valuable initiative.
