Over the past several weeks the Develop Africa Sierra Leone (DASL) team hosted the 2nd STEM Session using the Legos Mindstorms sets. The Legos STEM project aims to train DASL school-going beneficiaries to build Legos Robots and cultivate their interests in STEM or robotics.

Nine boys attended the training session and were excited to build the Legos.  During the first training session, the boys were divided into five groups (two boys per group), and each group built different Legos. The training commenced on June 10, 2023, at the DASL computer lab, and the trainer explained the importance of the project and the process or steps of building Legos. He mentioned that building Legos requires patience, observation, and concentration.

The trainer noted that each group would develop their Legos in three phases, and every session aimed to complete one phase. He displayed several videos that explained the steps required in building different Legos. Each of the boys teamed up with their teammates to make the Lego assigned to them by the trainer, and all of them completed the first phase of building their Legos during the first session.

During the second session,  the students were very excited that they completed the second phase of their Legos because they commanded their Legos to move from one place to another successfully.  In the final session, the students were able to program their Lego robots to accomplish certain tasks.  All of the participants thoroughly enjoyed building the Lego robots and getting them to complete certain commands.  Valentine & Musa tell us about their robot in this video.

Hello, my name is Valentine and this is my colleague. My name is Musa. We are here, this is the project that we have made and it is called Charlie and we are also here to make a little demonstration on our project that we have made.

We just want to say thank you for this opportunity, especially for us science students. Thank you.

We deeply appreciate your ongoing support, as it enables more STEM sessions, mentoring, and educational resources for the future leaders of Sierra Leone. If you haven't already, we warmly welcome your continued support through a recurring donation. We also encourage you to share this project with your contacts and invite them to consider supporting this valuable initiative.
