Music therapy and creative cooking retreats transforming women's lives

By Paulina Toro | Project Leader

For the last months we focused on developing the curriculum for our first weekend personal transformation retreat. We had learned the women we serve mostly need to reconnect with their true voices, find and or realign their Ikigai, and most importantly let go of their true selves as a means to cook their dream. Our team ventured on a co-creation process of developing a set of workshops to provide women and most importantly those women who need it the most with a toolkit to aid them in their journey to find and let go of their essence an Ikigai. In this process we combined the needs identified, with our findings from the workshops, methodologies and facilitation techniques that worked the most with our team members unique talents and experience. As a result, we came up with a curriculum with a set of workshops that take women on a journey into reconnecting and letting go through music therapy, creative cooking, yoga, and hiking.

During this time, we also developed a highly successful B2C social media marketing campaign. We carried out the campaign as well as a marketing, sales and a fundraising campaign based on word of mouth between Cocinando Sueños’ network of alumni and stakeholders. The campaigns were highly successful and we were able to provide scholarships and financial merit and need based aid to single mothers in need.

Finally last weekend, together with a local eco-hostel as well as a music for wellness singer/songwriter as well as with a set of volunteers out team, we successfully carried out our first retreat. Attendees reported they went in as one and went out of the retreat renovated and reenergized. They also highlighted how the natural environment, the conscious food as well as the workshops allowed them to go out of the retreat with a greater sense of who they are, where they are going and mostly with a set of tools to continue their inner work to fulfill their dreams.

We are very thankful and full of joy for the beginning of this new chapter of our project where we have found we can have the greatest impact on single mothers with a need and strong desire to transform their lives and that of their families. We very much look forward to continuing to receive your generous donations and support such that we can further our impact, by increasing the number of scholarships and financial aid spots in our retreats, such that we continue to serve those women and their families who need it the most.

As we move forward, we look forward to incorporating all the joy and learnings from our first retreat and keep the momentum and have our next retreat on august 4-7. To date we already have spots filling up.
