Support women entrepreneurs Report

By ANA LUCIA PALACIO MONTOYA | Project Leader

Thus far we have been able to provide our beneficiaries with 3 months of experiential classes with experts in the field, to start gaining and strengthening their culinary, entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship skills. We have also been working on empowering them as entrepreneurial women. We have done this through classes such as: Own Love and Empowerment, Inspiration in Cooking and Baking, Building Your Purpose and Design your Business.

The first cohort in the educational program consists of 21 women, 14 of whom regularly attend classes. We have individually called each of the woman who do not come regularly to understand why they have not continued the classes. We have found that the motives include reasons such as employment, family difficulties, other commitments, and personal mismanagement of time. It also has been difficult for women to arrive to classes because of the cost of transportation. Knowing these reasons has helped us to generate user-centered growth and engagement strategies such as changing the day and time of the classes and class contents. We also have been able to offer scholarship for transportation costs to students as well.

Those who have been coming to classes have been presented great opportunities for learning and practically using what they have learned. For example three weeks ago members of the Cocinado Sueños program, as part of their internship program with us, were able to successfully cater a medical event with breakfast and lunch for 400 people. The event provided a great practical experience, access to market, as well as  networking opportunity for women in the program.
