Give needy kids life and hope through education

The high cost of food is a struggle for many families in Kenya. This was made worse by prolonged drought. The country had 3 months of intense heat and the expected rain delayed. Most of the students that we support come from Maasai families. The Maasai are pastoralist community. They get income by selling the livestock. During the drought time, the grass and wells dried up. A lot of livestock died, and it got so difficult to sell livestock in the markets. The families struggled to feed their kids.

One of our students reached out and said, “This drought has brought a lot of disaster ,the few goats we had all died. My family is struggling so much. We don’t have food and most time we sleep hungry.” This message broke our heart to pieces. We immediately started plans to take food to them.

 Like George Bach said, Caring has the gift of making the ordinary feel special. We visited the community with a lot of food to share. The community was so grateful. We shared laughter, joy and a lot of happiness. When we went back to the city, we organized a charity walk and requested friends and supporters to bring food. We did another food distribution to the community and this time, we took more variety of food. We intend to make this a monthly service to community. We welcome welwishers to partner with us in this noble initiative. Let us spread love inform of food. Let us feed the kids so that they can see tomorrow.

My name is Faith, Iam a form four graduate from Kamahuha GIrl’s High School.

I am a beneficiary of the Sports for Change organization. I was born in a small village in Murang’a County Kigumo Constituency Kangari Ward Kairitu village. I come from a humble background as the only girl between four boys. I did my KCPE exam in 2018 and scored 346 marks. I was willing to join my dream school that is Kamahuha Girls High School but my parents could not afford to take me there because school fees was high. They opted to take me to a nearby day school which was 3  kilometers one way from home. It was so tiresome for me. The

journey was taking a lot of my time that I would have used in my studies. That journey was also not safe because I had to leave home as early as 4 Am to be in school on time. Also, the road was very rough. I used  to fall and get injured as I ran to school. All these were heartbreaking to a girl who had worked hard to join her dream school.

Eventually, the best happened in my life when the Sports for Change Organisation came into my Life. How they found me was just a miracle, a dream come true for me. The organization took me to my dream school and supported me with everything including uniform, shopping, and even pocket money. I was so happy that tears of joy rolled down my cheeks every time I reminisced about what they had done to me. "All we want from you is good performance, good discipline and good example to other students.' They told me as they handed me school fees cheque. 

My experience in my dream school was so good compared to the day school. There were no more injuries, I saved more time for my studies. Before I joined the dream school I was so optimistic that I dreamt of the school gate and finally the dream came true. When I joined the school I was so determined to pass my KCSE exam that I join Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, to learn and become a mathematics lecturer. I did my KCSE exam in 2022 and scored a mean grade of B. I was the best over all and best  improved student among Sports for change beneficiaries. I was so happy. I dint let my sponsors, my family  and the society down. 

I want to join Jomo Kenyatta Univesity of Agriculture and Technology and take a Biochemistry course.

Sports for Change has changed my life from a village girl to a learned sophisticated girl through the mentorship that they offer to students where students get moral values. It has also given a chance for students from different backgrounds and tribes to interact and understand one another.

Sports for Change has changed the lives of many students in society thus inspiring many lives. Helping me transfer from a day school to a boarding school helped me to focus and get a good grade. This  will enable me to take a good useful course in life.

To all students in school, I would like to urge you to put more effort into your studies. Your efforts will not go unrewarded. work smart, be displined  and manage your time. well. Do your part and leave the other part for God.

To all Sports For change supporters and donors ,may God bless you and add you more to share with the needy and change their lives.

Sports for change leadership sessions helped me to be confident and social. Iam a jovial and very playful girl. Iam in a very happy place in life becuase stragers found me and believed in me. Thank you!
