Isabela, a strong girl in her treatment.

By Ana Maria Londono | Lider de proyecto

Children with cancer require specialized attention for their comprehensive care. The Children's Hospital, with its oncology unit, serves many children for timely treatment, offering various spaces and projects such as cryotherapy. Thanks to donations through the "Popsicles that give wellness" project, equipped with a freezer that provides popsicles benefiting over 150 pediatric patients, efforts are made to reduce inflammation and enhance the bioavailability of chemotherapy in the digestive tract.

They also provide integration, teaching, and learning spaces like the Hospital Classroom. In the first quarter of 2023, we conducted over 50 activities focused on different themes, such as "Beings that transform history," "How to turn your pain into art," and celebrating the Month of Children.

Isabela is 9 years old and was diagnosed with leukemia. She has been experiencing symptoms since October 2022, and on April 27th, she was admitted to our hospital to receive chemotherapy treatment. She is currently in our oncology unit.

Her mother always accompanies her, and they enjoy being in the hospital classroom because, for a moment, they forget about their situation. They remember the first time Isabela underwent chemotherapy, and despite being in a lot of pain, Isabela would ask her mother to read her a story. Her mother describes her as a very strong girl and mentions that she has amazed her family with her resilience. Despite the pain, Isabela does not lose her spirit and happiness. Her mother also expresses gratitude for the hospital's compassionate care and thanks everyone for contributing to saving her daughter's life.

With your donation, children like Isabela will continue to benefit. We will continue working to ensure that children with cancer receive their treatments in appropriate areas that promote their development and well-being. Thank you for believing in our cause!
