Another new year to expand menstrual education

By Rose Bugusu | Director

As we begin a new year, we would like to sincerely thank you for being part of this noble cause. one that protects the dignity, confidence, and future of vulnerable girls. Your support has helped carry forward the voices and stories of girls whose experiences continue to shape and guide the work of Tumaini Miles of Smiles Centre.

Because of your generosity, the Restoring Dignity for Girls program successfully reached 300 girls in day secondary schools. The funds you provided enabled us to make and distribute reusable sanitary towels to girls whose parents or guardians cannot afford boarding school or the recurring cost of disposable sanitary pads. This challenge is a major reason many girls miss school. In response, we introduced washable sanitary pads that can last up to four years, allowing girls to remain in school with confidence and dignity. Your support has also helped expand menstrual health education and improve access to essential supplies.

Each Restoring Dignity for Girls kit includes two pairs of underwear, eight reusable pads, two shields, a waterproof pouch for storing used pads, a towel for personal hygiene, and soap. When used correctly, one kit can last up to three years of high school. This ensures that girls feel safe, comfortable, and supported during their menstrual cycles, significantly reducing absenteeism and helping them stay focused on their education.

In addition, these kits are made by widows within our community, providing them with a source of income to support their families. As a result, this program not only benefits schoolgirls but also indirectly supports widows and orphans, creating a ripple effect of empowerment and sustainability.

As we move into this new year, we look forward to continuing this important work, sharing updates on the impact you have helped make possible, and amplifying the stories that deserve to be seen and heard. Thank you for standing with us in restoring dignity, hope, and opportunity.
