Project Report | May 10, 2022
125 animals were fixed in Piura and Arequipa, Peru

By Karina Canales | Stray Animal Project Co-Founder & CEO

The successes captured in this report demonstrate how the support of people like you make a lasting difference in the lives of homeless animals. And yet, we all know there is so much more work to be done.

Thanks to your donations on this platform, we were able to neuter/spay 125 more animals in different campaigns organized over the last two months in Arequipa (South of Peru) and Piura (North of Peru).

We continue to focus on animals that otherwise won't be fixed: animals  from  low-income  families,  shelters,  and  strays.

Although more than half of our surgeries are for stray animals, we also  love  helping  caring pet  owners  who are  not  able to afford spay/neuter surgeries at a veterinarian  hospital. Their  love  for  their  pets  and lack of resources force them to be creative, usually bring their animals in laundry baskets or boxes instead of a pet carrier (See picture)

In the future, we want to expand to more areas of Peru outside of Lima. Lima has ~30% of  Peru’s population  and therefore a high concentration of stray animals, but that centralization is the reason that stray animals outside Lima barely receive any help. This is why your help is so critical to continue helping other areas of Peru.

As a next step we would love to expand in the Andes of Peru. We identified some provinces like Carhuaz, Huaraz where neuter & spay campaigns are nonexistent and hundreds of animals are reproducing uncontrollably on the streets, causing more pain and suffering. We hope we can count on you to make this possible.

Your support played a big part in our success. Together in 2022, we will achieve our goal of neutering/spaying many more animals and expanding to other cities in Peru. With woofs and purrs of gratitude
