Back to school / Regreso a clases :)

Hello! We wanted to tell you that by the end of January, 42 of our children started their classes at six schools near CRAN.

"Guaranteeing the right to education of our children means enrolling them in school according to their age and educational stage", explains Catheryn, CRAN's social worker

At this time of the year, she and Jenny, also a social worker, make the necessary arrangements to get a place for all of our kids. There are many lines to wait in and many visits to government agencies and schools, a lot of paperwork, requests and documents they must gather, but they do everything with affection and commitment because it is for the children's good.

An additional challenge is to secure a seat in special institutions. The town of Suba, where CRAN is located, has 1,200,000 inhabitants, but only one (one!!) educational institution with acceleration classes for children with learning disabilities. One of our children required a place in this institution, which we finally obtained after a whole year of paperwork.

After securing places in schools and legalizing enrollment, we must seek safe and reliable transportation for the children. If none of the bus routes offered by the local government in Bogotá goes near CRAN, the we must assume the transportation of the children to their schools. And it is thanks to your generosity, and that of many supportive people, that we can have the resources for responsible drivers to take the children to their schools and back to CRAN with affection and care.

Also thanks to you, we can give to the children their school uniforms and sportswear, shoes, suitcases, books, notebooks, pencils and other school supplies they need and even the sunscreen to protect their skin. It's like a family with kids in school but multiplied by 42! ;-)

"The other day I drew a frog by myself", says María, 8 years old. "What I like the most about school is learning English. How to say the days of the week or the vowels. Mathematics is also cool", she adds.

"What I like the most is Spanish, they give us dictations and we learn to write in cursive", says Ana, 9 years old. "At recess I play babies and moms with Luna, my best friend".

What Luis, who is 5 years old and is in preschool, likes the most of school are snacks, especially popsicles.

For all what you do, many thanks! Thank you very much for taking care of our children and guarantee their right to learn while they recover their most important right: to have a family that cares for, protects and loves them for a lifetime.

We invite you to continue supporting us and to promote our project among your friends, family and colleagues. Thank you for building a better world with us!

¡Hola!
