On June 6, the russians destroyed the dam of the Kakhovksa hydro-electric station. This terrorist attack was the cause of one of the biggest European environmental disasters, which attracted the attention of the whole world. It has already begun to affect now and will continue to affect millions of lives in the future. We express our deepest condolences and hope for the salvation of all people and the recovery of the region.
In order to mitigate the consequences of this terrible tragedy, the employees and volunteers of our organization are putting all their efforts to help local residents and animals. On the very first day of the disaster, FHL staff took part in coordination meetings, the purpose of which was to focus all forces and establish cooperation between NGOs and the local authorities of Odesa in order to immediately start helping the residents of Kherson region. We actively participate in the evacuation of people and provide humanitarian aid. At the Odesa bus station, we made an "arrival point", where we meet people from the Kherson region. As of 10th of June, 231 people from Kherson region arrived in Odesa region without funds for living, documents and without understanding what to do and where to ask for help.
"When the buses arrived at the station, the faces of the evacuees showed palpable fatigue and excitement. But they found the strength to smile when they saw our team ready to help them in a difficult moment. The meeting was filled with emotions that are difficult to convey in words. The words "Thank you!" sounded from the survivors along with light tears in their eyes. These people lost their homes, some of them lost relatives and pets, but even in such a difficult moment, they felt the power of compassion and support that our team gave them." - Yulia, a social worker of FHL, shares her emotions.
We are asking you for help, as you and your all the GlobalGiving Team have repeatedly supported our organization and the affected population of Ukraine in the most difficult times for us. This support was always timely and helped to save many lives of Ukrainians and support those who lost their last hope.
Currently, people are in need of the following help:
Lifeboats, lifejackets, blankets, flashlights, wetsuits, portable stations, power banks, water filters, water purification tablets, food and hygiene products, pet food, pet carriers, and almost all of them need evacuation assistance.
Thank you for supporting us and giving the opportunity to help the population affected by the war in Ukraine. We believe in the Armed Forces, our Partners, justice and a sure victory!
