Preparing for the Next Pandemic
By Julia Nemy | Communications Coordinator
In May 2023, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Chief of the World Health Organization, declared an end to the COVID-19 pandemic as a global health emergency. As we begin to move into a "post pandemic world" where COVID-19 restrictions and precautions fade away, GAIA Vaccine Foundation continues to work with our team in Mali on infectious disease prevention. We do so on a daily basis through testing and helping improve access to care for all, as well as through grant based research and community outreach projects.
If the COVID-19 pandemic has taught us anything it is that now is the time to prepare for future global health emergencies. This means training clinic staff on infectious disease protocols, improving access to testing and vaccines and expanding public health education at the community level.
COVID-19 continues to have a major impact across the globe and the virus claims one life every three minutes. Infectious disease prevention and education most continue to be a priority. That is why GAIA Vaccine Foundation continues to operate and strengthen the Mali Clinic Sipplies to Protect Against COVID-19 project and prepare our partner clinics for the next global health emergency.
Thank you for your support to GAIA Vaccine Foundation.

How COVID-19 is Affecting At-Risk Countries
By Anja Schneider | GAIA Vaccine Foundation Intern
As the COVID-19 pandemic persists, the consistent need for medical supplies is crucial in countries such as Mali, where over crowded cities and a lack of a robust healthcare system leaves many vulnerable
This is especially true for Mali, specifically among people living with HIV+ and who are already immunocompromised. Mali lacks much of the healthcare infrastructure needed to combat a pandemic of this scale.
As the pandemic prevails, GAIA Vaccine Foundation is working to stay ahead of the curve in terms of medical supplies and preventative measures. Working alongside doctors at the Hope Center Clinic, GAIA Vaccine Foundation is continuing to design approaches to prevent the spread of disease as well as provide testing. However, there is a persistent need for more medical supplies as the pandemic continues to affect the country.
Now more than ever, your donations are greatly appreciated. For a donation of only $10, you would be providing doctors with a new box of gloves. For only $25, you would be providing them with a box of masks. For a donation of $80, you would be giving the Hope Center Clinic a consistent supply of disinfectant as they work to evade the spread of the virus. We thank you for your ongoing support as GAIA Vaccine Foundation continues to navigate COVID-19.

The Risk of COVID-19 on Vulnerable Communities
By Anja Schneider | GAIA Vaccine Foundation Intern
The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect communities all over the world. The countries most at risk, however, are those that are most vulnerable to the virus. This includes communities where there is limited access to healthcare, as well as individuals experiencing immunocompromisation due to HIV+. This is the current condition in developing countries such as Mali, which does not possess the healthcare structure that would help to prevent and control a pandemic as large as COVID-19.
GAIA Vaccine Foundation is looking to remain ahead of the curve in Mali in terms of the COVID-19 pandemic and the number of infected individuals. Therefore, the organization is working with local clinics and doctors to design appropriate responses to the pandemic in Mali, as well as developing and providing adequate medical service to those who are immunocompromised.
Now more than ever, your support is welcomed and greatly appreciated. For a donation of $10, you would be providing health care officials with a box of gloves. For only $25, you would be providing them with a box of masks. A donation of $50 would be providing surgical gowns, and for $80, you would be funding a consistent supply of disinfectant. We thank you for your ongoing support, especially during times as unprecedented as the COVID-19 pandemic.
