Ministry of Planning Development and Reforms on Wednesday informed the Senate that about 29.5 per cent of the country’s population is living below the poverty line.
A food poverty line is calculated by taking the average spending on food of households, based on minimum threshold of 2,350 level of calorie intake and calculates expenditure on non-food items like shelter, clothing, education and health, to obtain a CBN poverty line, which can be regularly updated for inflation, using the Consumer Price Index (CPI) to track poverty over time.
The more alarming indicator is the intensity of poverty, as each poor person lacks access to half of the indicators selected for measuring poverty. The MPI findings show more than 60% of Pakistan’s population does not have access to cooking fuel, approximately, 49% do not complete schooling, almost four out of every 10 people (39%) do not have any assets and over 38% of the population lives in a one-room shelter. About one-third population does not have access to health facilities.
NUR Foundation took the initiative of not only educating these children, but also providing them with clothes. The numbers are increasing day by day but we still make it a point to distribute as many as we can among the needy children. Along with providing education to them, it is very important to nurture and groom them.
During this winter season, we require your support in providing these children with clothing in order to keep them warm. Since they lack basic facilities, it is an obligation for us to support them.
Lets continue the support and make their lives better.
Keep your support coming and we hope it continues to grow in future.
Thank you so much!
