Thank you, loyal PH Family. We are so grateful to each and every one of our supporters who has donated to help support our families during the current pandemic. We feel blessed to have such a generous Peruvian Hearts family of supporters that believe in our work and mission. Even in this most difficult and uncertain time for each of us, our supporters remain concerned about our scholars and their families who are thousands of miles away and are committed to making a difference. Thank you!
Before the COVID-19 pandemic began, the average monthly income for the family of a PH scholar was $319. Since the pandemic began, 90% of our scholars’ parents lost their jobs or stopped working completely and have no other source of income. On March 18, two days after the National Emergency was declared in Peru, we gave out the first stipend to our PH families to purchase food and basic necessities. Each and every one of our PH scholars and their families wrote messages of gratitude and thanks for the unconditional love and support they continue to receive from Peruvian Hearts and its family of supporters. Our scholars and their families sent photos of themselves with their purchases as a way to express their appreciation for the financial assistance.
PH scholar, Maite, who studies Civil Engineering at the National University in Cusco, wrote a note of gratitude on behalf of her family, which read: “The economic support has provided us with financial relief and peace of mind. We feel blessed by such a beautiful gesture of solidarity, it is a gift from God that fills our hearts with gratitude and makes us long to help others as well.”
Since the effects from the pandemic began in March, we have provided over $11,000 in relief support to our 27 PH families. The national quarantine has now been extended through June 30th and the devastating economic effects of COVID-19 continue to be overwhelming for our PH families. We will continue to monitor the needs of our scholars and their families to make sure they are supported during this time of great hardship.
PH scholar, Kristel, studies mining Engineering at the National University, wrote a note of gratitude, which read:
“My family and I are blessed to count on such marvelous people. We admire your noble hearts and give a thousand thanks for your support during this difficult chapter in which we have to be extremely cautious and also help other people who are experiencing moments of difficulty. Thank you for teaching us and inspiring us.”
