Thank you to all of our supporters who continue to give so generously to support our Peruvian Hearts scholars. The girls in our program continue to grow and develop into strong and confident young women.
We are thrilled to celebrate the graduation of Peruvian Hearts scholar, Gloria, who graduated from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado with a Bachelor’s degree in Geological Engineering. Gloria is the first of her family to attend and graduate from university. Her academic drive and determination helped Gloria to graduate with Summa Cum Laude honors and her engagement among the college community helped in her being selected to speak on behalf of her graduating class at the university commencement ceremony. She was recently recognized for her leadership in humanitarian engineering within the college and with a philosophy of paying it forward, Gloria has served for the last year and a half as the Service Chair for the local chapter of the Blue Key Honor Society.
Gloria plans to take on an internship position with the international platinum mining company Sibanye Stillwater in Montana this summer. She is keeping her options open for the future and potential leads in the United States or South America. Gloria plans to eventually return to Peru and wants to transform the life of her mother, Rosa, and the lives of her three sisters. Two of her sisters, Yoselin and Yenifer, are on their own university paths and will soon become the next members of their family to graduate with a college degree.
We are proud of Gloria for her hard work and this significant achievement, and for being the first Peruvian Hearts scholars to graduate with a degree from a university outside of Peru. We know that this is only the beginning for Gloria and that she will be successful in all of her future endeavors and that most importantly she will honor the sacrifice and generosity of our donors and supporters by using her education and degree to pay it forward and become an agent of change in the world.
