Plant 40,000 Trees In Northern Rwanda

Dear Patrons,

Thank you so much for the support that you have provided so far for planting 20,000 trees in Northern Rwanda. We are glad to share a detailed report for land three fencing work that we have completed, at location Rwanda:72PR+89P (Google Plus code). This area’s name is Buyoga, the fencing done is around 360 meters (See attached photos). This will highly protect our trees from disturbances from animals like goats, cows, and sheep, as well as from the disturbances caused by the humans.

As we have completed the fencing activity, the most important now is to do maintenance. Actually, the maintenance includes to prune the area properly in order to keep the trees healthy and strong, and as the water is the food for our trees and plants – that’s why effective watering is one of the most important ways to care and maintain, so watering will be needed during dry season. Also. As the soil compaction prevents water and oxygen from infiltrating to the tree’s roots, we will make sure that the soil is not compacted. We will be doing mulch about 6 inches from the base of your tree so that we cannot damage our trees roots.

Dear Patrons,

It is our honor and pleasure to have you as partners, supporters and donors. On behalf of Rwandan Youth Development and Voluntary Organization, I am very much excited to take this opportunity to thank you very much for all the support that you have offered so far for our Rwanda forestation project.

In this field report, we are sharing with you, the progress of sapling planting activities for the Land 4 located in Taba cell, Ryinzovu village in Rulindo district of Burega sector, Rwanda. This area’s Google code is Rwanda:624R+Q3 (Google plus Code). On Saturday, the 9^th of April 2022, our tree planting activities started at 8 AM and went on till 12 PM. Together with 24 students, RWAYDAVO volunteers, and one community leader of the village, we were able to carry out this activity successfully and we have planted around 900 passion fruits. The saplings we planted were mostly passion fruits but at the edge of the land, we have planted Grevillea.  RWAYDAVO Volunteers and project workers supported in digging holes deep enough to cover the tree's root-ball and to put the organic fertilizer. (See attached photo).

RWAYDAVO volunteers supervised the activity and ensured that the trees planted by the students were planted according to the guidance, because RWAYDAVO volunteers conducted a teaching session on the importance of trees and the steps that they should do before putting the sapling in the soil, which included instructions that students should remove the root-ball from the container and place the tree in the hole having the organic fertilizer mixed with the soil.  

We have now completed sapling planting on Land 4.

For fencing Land 4, we are going to start immediately basic activities that will help us to construct fences. It is very important to do fencing of the lands, because we want to protect the land in which the trees are planted from animals like goats, cows, and sheep, as well as from the disturbances caused by the humans. Maintenance is a key activity after tree planting and fencing. RWAYDAVO volunteers and project workers will ensure that maintenance is happening as planned to facilitate our trees to grow well without disturbance.

To achieve this successfully, we need ongoing funds for the regular maintenance of the saplings and the land. The maintenance will require maximum care and supervision to make sure that trees are growing well. This activity will also include pruning the area properly in order to keep the trees healthy and strong. As we might all aware, the water is food for our trees and plants – that’s why effective watering is one of the most important ways to care and maintain, so watering might be needed during dry season. Also, as the soil compaction prevents water and oxygen from infiltrating to the tree’s roots, we will make sure that the soil is not compacted.
