Mission updates from Ethiopia

Today, we would like to give you some updates about the mission we recently carried out in Ethiopia.
The trip was mainly focused on management and administrative issues. The main novelty is that two new counselors joined the staff, and they are now working alongside Temesegen, the program coordinator. Thanks to these new resources, the informal education activity in the family houses has been strengthened. This activity is in our opinion fundamental. In fact, the minors hosted in the family houses are not always ready to be reintegrated into school and very often the teachers are not ready to handle the insertion of a child victim of sexual abuse; this means that the return to school is postponed until after the children leave family homes. For these reasons, educational activities within the family environment are really necessary to compensate to the missed school attendance.
We are very grateful to all the contributors for their precious help and support. Thank you very much!

A milestone agreement

Meeting of Ethiopian and Italian operators
We have great news from our project “Flowers in Bloom”! The agreement among the Addis Abeba University, the University of Chieti and the Bicocca University in Milan, has been finally signed. This three-year work plan includes first of all a new collection of data concerning the situation of sexually abused children in Addis Abeba, since the last study on the issue dates back to ten years ago.
This new baseline is fundamental in order to assess the real social impact of our project. In this way, IPSO will be able to involve other children in the project in a new way, and to monitor the outcome in a more effectivve way. We are sure this is going to determine a decisive increase in the quality of this project!
Finally, we would like to renew once again our thanks, since without your support it would be impossible to carry out all of this. We couldn’t be more grateful!

Fresh news from Addis Abeba

One of our collaborators is now in Etiopia on a trip, together with two donors, who wished to visit the “Flower in Bloom” project.
First of all, they met a representative of Addis Abeba University, in order to discuss about the activation of annual internships for the year 2019. The meeting was very fruitful, and the parts decided to cooperate again this year, in order to give some students the possibility to work as interns in IFSO (Integrated Family Service Organization), a non-governmental organization whose mission is to improve the life conditions of many Ethiopian children living in difficult circumstances.
The trip also had a monitoring aim. In fact, our collaborators visited some family-homes, which shelter several children, who were victims of abuse. Their feedback was definitely positive! They noticed that the project is proceeding as planned and that the sheltered children are usually able to overcome the trauma and have now hope for a brighter future.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who is helping us to carry on this project, which would not be possible otherwise. Thanks to your support we achieved many goals and we are willing to do more and more!
