There have been months of high training for psycho-social workers who provide assistance to children victims of sexual violence of the Child Abuse Treatment Center in Addis Abeba. Just in July, a three-day training course was held in which specialists in the sector presented the operative protocol for taking care of abused children developed in synergy by the University of Milan - Bicocca, by the Department of Neurosciences of the G. D'Annunzio University of Chieti and the School of Psychology in Addis Abeba.
After a brief description of the alarming number of children who, abandoned to street life, are exposed to a very high risk of violence in general and of sexual abuse in particular, the focus has been on the protocol of prevention and intervention aimed at fighting the sad phenomenon and to ensure proper health, psychological and legal assistance to victims. The course has attracted the interest of the operators who have had the opportunity to reflect and discuss the practices followed and how the proposed operational modality can bring about improvements.
In view of replicating this experience also in Benin, Aleimar proposed to the social responsible of Cipcre-Benin, a local organization that provides support to the abused children and that our project leader had visited in the last monitoring trip, to participate in the training course, gathering important information and allowing a good exchange of good practices.
