Canines With a Cause (CWAC) is starting the new year with an exciting opportunity for supporters to make a real impact! Our revamped Paw Squd foster program now offers two roles: Active Duty and Reserve.
Active Duty Fosters:
As an Active Duty foster, you'll play a hands-on role in preparing our canine candidates for their future veteran partners. This involves attending weekly trainings and receiving a monthly stipend in appreciation of your time and efforts.
Reserve Fosters:
Our Reserve fosters are equally vital, providing a loving home for CWAC canines until they find their forever homes. This traditional foster role helps us care for our dogs and set them up for success.
Both roles are crucial to our mission, and we're grateful for your support! If you think you might be interested in fostering, we’re always looking! Currently, we are looking for an Active Duty foster for our newest adoption, Molly. She is currently located in the greater Salt Lake City area. Please reach out to Chloe at Chloe@canineswithacause.org if you or someone you know might be interested!
We're excited to share updates from our training program! Currently, we have 12 veteran teams actively working towards their goals - 8 in Utah and 4 in Reno. One team that's making great progress is James and Kylo, who are back in the program after a brief hiatus. They're now in Intermediate I and working diligently to achieve their objectives. We're also thrilled to welcome Luna, a talented canine donated to veteran Spencer by a trainer in Idaho. Initially trained for detection work, Luna's temperament led her to become a therapy dog instead. Now, she's part of our Foundations class, learning to support Spencer as a service dog. Lastly, Chelsea and Poptart (SDiT) are nearing a major milestone - their Public Access test! We're rooting for them as they prepare for this final assessment.
On a more serious note, we occasionally receive messages from veterans who were either enrolled in or graduated our program. Sadly, these updates often share the passing of their service dogs. While it's heartbreaking to hear of their loss, we're also deeply moved by the profound impact these canine companions had on their lives.
Just last week, we received an email from a veteran who lost his beloved service dog, Ruby. Ruby's presence went far beyond mitigating her veteran's PTSD; she was a constant companion, traveling with her veteran to new assignments, paying respects to fallen comrades, and – in her veteran's own words – giving them a reason to keep living.
Messages like these remind us of the vital importance of our work. They underscore the transformative power of the human-canine bond and the difference it can make in the lives of our veterans.
We're grateful for your continued support, which enables us to make this difference. Thank you, and we look forward to sharing updates on our future endeavors.
