Dear family of Darfur Women Network,
Darfur Women Network (DWN), would like to share with you some exciting news. The impact of your donation has enabled us to contact our safe stove production group to make stoves. They started collecting their ingredients on January 5th, 2023. Then, the team leader discussed with her group all the business details such as the action plan. They agreed upon making 200 safe stoves, and they donated 20 safe stoves, completion date.
The DWN purchased 200 safe stoves to give away to 200 refugee mothers from Darfur refugees camp in Chad. The production group donated 20 safe stoves to their sisters in the camp. Our staff received 220 safe stoves and transferred them to our distribution center to give them away for no cost in March 2023.
On March 2nd .2023, our production group agreed upon making 200 more safe stoves. Now, they are collecting ingredients to prepare them to resume making safe stoves for the second round.
This project has made difference among our refugee mothers and their daughters. The positive impact of these services are including:
Safe stove replaces the traditional wood-burning cooking stoves to cook for their families. This stove consumes a huge amount of firewood. Firewood scarcity due to deforestation leaves women and girls vulnerable when walking long distances into dangerous forests and conflict territories. This may put them at risk for rape and or hostile attacks. Also, walking long distances to collect firewood has been a burden on the women which may weaken their physical capabilities. In addition, smoke inhalation and fire hazards are also a constant concern.
Yesterday, March 13,23, was our International Women’s Day celebration in the camp.
The Darfur Women Network is excited to share with you our celebration event as soon as we received the documentation.
Thank you to our compassionate donors, our volunteers, and our staff
Please, join us to protect women and girls from rape and hostile attacks during collecting firewood. A safe stove is an efficient solution.
