SAVE A CHILD WITH CANCER

Santiago, diagnosed with blindness due to eye cancer. Today, he can see, play, learn and have fun.

Thanks to you we are saving the lives of children with eye cancer sparing the removal of one or both eyes, blindness or death.

The Children Hospital San Vicente Foundation team received the children with eye cancer with loving hands and due to the scientific expertise of being pioneers and thanks to the intra-arterial chemotherapy available in Colombia, the Eye Care Cancer Program has attended since 2011 up-to-date a total of 43 children accomplishing eye saving rates of more than 90 % preventing their blindness and saving them from death. 

Mariana is four years old, and she lives with her family in a small village located 8 hours away from the municipal head, and one hour away from Medellin by plane. Since she was very Young, when her mom Maria Eugenia used to play with her, and she looked at an object in a fixed fashion, her eye would move to the corner as if she had strabismus, and with the light reflection it was possible to see like an opaque fabric in her left eye. After consulting with several physicians and specialists, she was diagnosed with eye cancer and referred to us at the Children Hospital of San Vicente Fundacion, as she was at risk of losing both eye, get blind, or develop a metastasis and even die. 

The Hospital team received Marianita with loving hands and due to the scientific expertise of being pioneers and thanks to the intra-arterial chemotherapy available in Colombia, the Eye Care Cancer Program has attended since 2011 up-to-date a total of 43 children accomplishing eye saving rates of more than 90 % preventing their blindness and saving them from death.

After three years of treatment and thanks to the love she has always received from her parents, Marianita has been able to overcome her disease, she plays, goes to school and shares time with her older brothers, while she takes care of the farm animals and has complete autonomy in all activities typical of a girl of her age.
