Helping Animals Who Really Need It

By Janice Ramirez Castro | Program Manager

Dear Supporters,

With all the things going on in Playa del Carmen and the floating population, Coco’s needs keeps on communicating to the community through different media, we have over 30 thousand followers on Facebook, we use Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, WhatsApp, but we also rely on mouth to mouth communication, as not everyone has internet and social media access.

Some of the work we do consists of visiting underserved communities and talking directly to guardians and caregivers, this helps us help those that really need it, and thanks to our vehicle we are able to do so.

Thanks to our mobile unit we can visit underserved communities and transport animals to the clinic, animals that otherwise wouldn’t be able to receive medical attention, due to lack of safe and affordable transport means, taxis are very expensive, and sometimes a bicycle ride is too much under our climate in the Caribbean sun.

Sadly, after all the animals our mobile unit has helped, it looks like it's working life is coming to an end, and soon it will need to be replaced, as maintenance is getting expensive. We look forward to donations to keep a functional mobile unit to transport animals that need medical care and basic needs such as deworming, vaccines and sterilization fulfilled to keep a healthy life.

In the last 3 months, Coco’s did 1,055sterilization surgeries at the Clinic in Playa del Carmen, preventing unwanted animals that are doomed to live on the street.

We also were able to help 332 dogs and 361 cats and their humans (rescuers or adopters) through the Rescuer Support Program (You Can be a Hero).

All this added to our work throughout the 11 years we´ve been working adds-up to:

  • 39, 750 sterilized animals
  • >7,000 cat rescues with medical support from Coco´s
  • >3,500 dog rescues with medical support from Coco´s
  • 378 dog rescued and rehomed by Coco´s
  • 1223 cats rescued and rehomed by Coco´s

We also had 3 more veterinary students doing their social service at Coco´s from Mexico City, they all already finished their studies at UNAM veterinary school, but have to pay back to society while they get more skills by learning with our veterinary team. They get to learn by watching our team in the field, as we give medical attention, do surgeries and tend underserved areas. The students go back after 6 months with us, having seen real situations and real needs in the animal welfare area.

Coco´s keeps on giving an example to follow to other welfare organizations in Mexico, and we now are very proud to be spreading the animal welfare and society needs through the students that come to our clinic.

We´ll keep on reaching out to underserved areas and humanely control the dog and cat population through sterilization and responsible animal guardianship.

Thank you so much for your support, thanks to you, we can accomplish more.

With Gratitude,

Mexico Vets
